Your Lie

From the depths of dub techno, we arise today with the tones of NonniMal’s ‘Hverfisgata’ which is also the title track of his debut LP on the storied Thule Records. For the last few years, the Reykjavik-based DJ and producer has been honing his style of atmospheric, sweeping sounds with releases on Æ Recordings, and LAHAR. 

Hverfisgata is a journey through a decidedly natural soundstage. With birds chirping throughout, coinciding with the proverbial blasts of ‘wind’, the expansive, textured synths bring an air of discord out. Something is brewing in the distance, the calm before the proverbial storm.

I had a nice lazy, buzzy Sunday and recorded an impromptu mix. I was looking out of my window as I was preparing things, then saw a Hang Glider or a Microlight in the dusky sky after cueing the first record. Quite low too! It set the scene... I then went through a box of deep house/techno records chosen for a gig 2 or 3 months prior. Good to blow the dust off before it settles, right?
