Techstil @ Muumimaa - Borderland 2023

Recorded at Faerden 2 Open Air, October 2021. 

As a hymn to the beauty & power of autumn I wanted to blend some melodic techno tracks & afro house from artists such as MoBlack, Frankey & Sandrino, Audiojack, Dinky, Damian Lazarus, Hacker & Miethig and Super Flu to name a few with some of my favourite contemplative hypnotic tracks from Giegling records with artists such as Edward, Leafar Legov, Traumprinz,  map.ache(how do you pronounce it?)

Thank you Cemile, Peter & Pär + crew for arranging an amazing party, and thanks for all the good vibes, dancing and support! Was an amazing experience to play seeing the fullmoon reflected in the water, and everyone dancing in the light of the bonfires!

Faerden 2

A full power mix from the opening-night of Borderland's sexy Foxhole dancefloor. It was sweaty and packed and it looked like people really enjoyed themselves. Like really really enjoyed themselves ;-)

A mix of tracks that is a tribute to the night, the place & the people (&ME and Rampa's "pussy power", Tunnelvision's Guava, Goom Gum's Tempter and the good old classic "Silver Screen" featuring Miss Kittin), and a mix of high-energy tracks along the lines of melodic techno / afro-house from artists like &ME, DJ Koze, Moojo, Stylo, Stefano Ranieri and Space Motion mixed up with some remixes of 70's tracks from Whitney Houston and Jefferson Airplane ending off with some grounding & heartwarming afro-inspired tracks from Laolu... 

Thank you so much for dancing, i had a real blast, and some kind of catharsis of kind...

Inspired by the warm bassy soundsystem and the moomin-house itself, i decided to explore the trippy side of the house with a mix of swingy afro-house and tracks from old-school  heros like Delano Smith (who is currently fundraising for cancer treatment, link here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/delano-smith-rare-cancer-treatment-fundraiser )  Also revisiting Claptone’s 2012 release “Cream”, and mixing it with some new tracks from Giegling’s Map.ache. A few blast from the pasts with a deep Timo Maas remix of Moby’s Porcelain, and a recent tasteful remake of R.E.M’s Losing my religion. Last part of the set I got company behind the decks as my old b2b friend Bjornson came by for some action (AKA “Fathers with different lawyers”)… Also thanks Alex Esser for swinging by and putting on that epic Booka shade track… The last track - “2000 Freaks Come out” - was a tribute to Borderland, and especially Muumimaa, and it felt like the roof almost came back off the house… 😉 I had the most amazing time behind the decks seeing such vibrant energy on the dancefloor… thank you all for gifting such a vibrant dancefloor, and big thanks for the moomin-crew for gifting borderlands best sound and friendliest artist-hosting with a constant flow of good vibes and lovely drinks!

Techstil - Archaic Revival

Thanks to Kei and db_koenji for inviting me and Ken Kuusk for a musical exchange between Japan, Sweden and Estonia. And special thanks to Daisuke and Mayumi for making the connection and being excellent hosts.

Track selection is inspired by our host - Kei, and a mix of Nordic hypnotic techno tracks from Dorisburg, Son Kite and Olof Dreijer, and some big-room techno from Ben Klock & Rrose mixed with soundscape that makes me think of Japanese aesthetics such as Etapp Kyle's track "Sakura" and Avalon Emerson.

Very thankful to the Muumimaa crew to be invited back to @muumimaa to play on the Wednesday night this year's Borderland! 

The inspiration for the set came from the 3 months long sailing-trip from Turkey to Sweden that I just completed. Most of the song selection was done during sailing at night when all I had to keep me awake was the fullmoon and my music collection, and so I prepared a wonky full energy set for the rowdy and sweaty crowd that I was so much longing to meet after life at sea… There's few remixes of old familiar tracks in there (Beatles, Laruie Andersson, The Beloved) and overall a lot of vocals this time around. Perhaps it was that human closeness that I was longing for out there surrounded by the un-inhabitable ocean…

All in all it’s a high-energy set starting off with some attitude “Til my baby gets back” from Fulltone onwards into a few afro-house tracks including a remix of Uncle Waffles “Tanzania”, and then into a crescendo of some hypnotic techno tracks mixed with some more bouncy house tracks to keep the sweaty vibes going… Ending with a song from my childhood heroes - the KLF - who I actually think was burning a wooden man (and a million quid) way before burning man was a thing (check out what they did with “rites of MU”)… all onboard all onboard onboard! toot toot! hope you enjoyed! :-)

First a bit of warmup house (Chasing Kurt/Atomsfear/Show-B), then into some stompy stuff with Tom Budden's dub-remix on Groove Armada's History, and later some more stompy stuff (Parade Saraceni, Maceo Plex, Radio Slave), and also a remix of Sudanese child-soldier Emmanuel Jal's track "Kuar", remixed by Henrik Schwarz and Olof Dreijer from the Knife. Some more tribal-stuff comes later with an intermediate track called Mystical Influences from Dorisburg's.... But I also thought it was time to dust off some old tunes that I used to play in Malmö many years ago (Minilogue, Extrawelt, Trentemöller, Wighnomy Bros, Todd Terje, iO, Metro Area), at the time when Minimal was the new Maximal… i hope you liked it as much as I did… Thank you for an amazing warm and friendly vibe, and positive support! It was sooo much fun playing with you! Anytime again… :-)

Ecstatic Dance Tampere

Schooled as a classical cellist, Techstil combines the hypnotic rhythm of techno with warm acoustic presence, and timeless geometrical melodies. Growing up with Kraftwerk he fell in love with analogue synthesizers at early age, and by 2006 he started DJ’ing in the underground clubs of Malmö. By 2008 he  followed the Basic Channel-beats to Berlin to participate in the evolution of the Berlin sound. After 4 years in Berlin he turned to a warmer slower sound, inspired by heavy base from Panorama bar, and never-ending weekends at Bar25... After many years in Helsinki, Finland he recently moved to Stockholm where he plays hypnotic deep house and dubby techno from labels like Sol Selectas, Giegling, Molt, Hypnus, Trolldans, Permanent Vacation and Diynamic
