I hear B-sides of singles and lost album tracks
What’s this I see here among the racks?
Of the record store I recall from my youth
Now there’s nobody speaking the truth

When I was a boy there were John, Paul and George
And sometimes Ringo though he never struck a chord
There were Mick & Keith & Charlie, Bill Wyman on the bass
All their songs brought a smile to my face

I had a pair of headphones and would stay up all night
Listening to albums ‘til it got light
Then I’d go to bed and dream that maybe one day
I’d be a rock star in my own special way

I had a part-time job and when I got paid
I’d got to town on that very special day
To the record store they were in buildings back then
When you went to buy music you might make a friend

When you look back to when you were a kid
All the happy memories of the crazy shit you did
But you can’t blame The Beatles & you can’t fault the Stones
When it came to bad ideas you got those on your own

Now it’s getting late and the great ones have gone
Thank God their music still lives on

I wish I was a good man never given to temptation
But I feel like a failure for my lack of motivation
Hard times are falling on many a good man
While they overcome theirs I do what I can

Rich people tend to be so condescending unto others
Have they nothing but contempt for their less well-off brothers?
People acquire things as if there were no stop
While they go on amassing wealth I make do with what I got
And it ain’t much

One percent has trillions from destroying lives
Lawyers rake in the dough divorcing wives
I struggle hard to meet the bills I have to pay
They’ll get theirs and I’ll get mine when we meet on judgment day

She was a bulldog wrote for The Spectator
Bill McCabe owned that local newspaper
Exposing corruption until one night
Molly disappeared from sight

Screams at midnight on Buell Avenue
All they found were her black pump shoes
A missing person where’d she go?
What happened to Molly Zelko?

The mob ran the juke joints and pinball machines
A gambling crime syndicate industry
Boss’s name was Frank Curry
He caught the attention of Bobby Kennedy 
And Sheriff Trizna

FBI poked around
J. Edgar Hoover dug holes in the ground
A snitch in Stateville said he knew
But they hardly found a solid clue

She might have cashed in and run away
Or was she done in some other way?
On her finger a diamond ring
17 carats a beautiful thing

Whiteside and Cain brought back the tale
In ’78 to no avail
The ending no one knows
