Novation Peak - Mariana

This is a piece about how regret can haunt you.
I sequenced it using the EM-U MP-7 Command Station. I also used that instrument to provide the drums and the bassline. The atmospheric sound at the beginning is provided by the Yamaha TG33 vector synth. The lush chords during the chorus come from patch C21 on the Roland SH-32. The abstract background "bell warble" during the verse comes from the Roland D-50. And the lead line that follows the chorus and precedes the verse is the Odyssee Lead patch from the Alesis Ion. I sequenced the mod wheel during that track to provide a filter sweep on the sound.

Back - Tracking

This is the very first thing I ever recorded. (Well, before this there was a few years of goofing around with cassette decks. But that was all vocal "comedy".)

Early 1983, I'm 14 or or maybe just 15 years old here. I just bought my first synth, a used Realistic/Moog MG-1 Concertmate MG-1 which had RCA inputs for letting you play along to your stereo. That was all the mixer it took to do this tape-to-tape, sound-on-sound recording (hence the incredibly high noise floor). Every instrument is the MG-1. Please forgive my playing, it's literally my first day. (I was already a self-taught piano player, so not my first day on a keyboard. But close!)

Sweet Dreams (Eurythmics cover) - My FIRST recording!

Another of my very first recordings, early 1983, age 15. Nothing but a Moog/Realistic MG-1 Concertmate mono-synth and a Roland TR-606 drum machine. Plus two consumer cassette tape decks to bounce the tracks back and forth through as I added new ones. I was a 15 year old kid who'd only been doing this for a couple of months but it's surprising to me now to realize how big those first steps can be, sometimes. I wouldn't do what I do now if it hadn't been for this learning experience. (Photo is my high-school graduating class; I'm in there somewhere. This is actually 2 years after this was recorded. The music store that I used to cuff class in and bought this early gear from was just opposite the camera.)

Games Without Frontiers (Peter Gabriel cover)

I worked with this fantastic indie game about an entire year. All the music was composed by using analog and digital synthesizers and hardware effects.

Many songs required a lot of work but there are also moments of instant, spontaneous improvising. Particulary "Proceeding forward" song was entirely improvised in one single take!

This is the Behringer Model D programmed like the main sound in "The Robots". This is my version, it is NOT perfect but just wanted to show people they could get MUCH closer to the original than previously heard.  I could have spent a lot more time on this to get it closer but this will do for now.
