Dennis Cruz continues his standout run-of-form in 2021 with the release of his latest single, What U Doing. Soon-to-appear on his forthcoming album, Roots, the single is a collaboration with UK singer-songwritwer Leo Wood and includes a remix by iconic German house producer Mousse T.

Two worlds come together in perfect harmony, as the five-minute number gets underway with shimmering bell chimes and Leo’s soothing vocal offerings. Dennis’ influence soon arrives, taking the form of a punchy, four-four bassline whilst echoing synths purr intermittently in the background. Mousse T ́s 'Deep Shizzle' Extended Remix brings things to a feel-good close, with upbeat piano rolls residing atop euphoric chords to create a dancefloor cut that you can’t help but smile to.

Next up on Industry Standard we have UK expat & New Zealand resident Dick Johnson.  Having been a mainstay on the House & Deep House scene for well over 2 decades he has released on labels such as Play It Down, Paper Recordings & Shaboom. His track ‘I Can’t Help Myself’ featured on our Industry Standard ‘Bits n Bobs Vol.1’ at the end of 2021, now we welcome Dick to the label for his first solo release on the label.

He’s delivered us a great 3 track EP featuring 2 versions of the title track ‘Into The Groove’, and ‘Get Up Now’ to finish it off. Make no mistake, these 3 tracks are all aimed squarely at the dancefloor, with pulsating rhythm sections, and enough disco licks to keep Studio 54 on fire. Teddy Pendergrass was an indisputable soul legend when he made his Elektra/Asylum debut in 1984. The former Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes lead vocalist and chart-topping solo superstar’s career had been stalled by a 1982 car accident, in which he suffered permanent paralysis from the waist down. After intensive physical therapy, he signed with Asylum and returned with the triumphant “LOVE LANGUAGE.” The album – which included the top 10 AC hit single, “Hold Me,” with vocals from a young Whitney Houston – was later featured prominently as the evocative soundtrack to Alan Rudolph’s 1984 film, Choose Me.

“JOY,” released in 1988, reached #2 on Billboard’s “Top R&B Albums” chart – his highest placing since “TEDDY” in 1979 – with two top 3 R&B hits in “2 A.M.” and the stirring title track. “Joy” proved a #1 smash, Teddy’s first solo chart-topper in a decade.

Pendergrass scored his third career R&B #1 with 1991’s “It Should Have Been You,” featured on his 11th studio album, “TRULY BLESSED.” Teddy’s third and final Elektra release, 1993’s “A LITTLE MORE MAGIC,” saw the singer collaborating with fellow stars like Barry White and labelmate Gerald Levert.

Teddy Pendergrass retired from the music business in 2006. Sadly, he passed away three years later following surgery for colon cancer.
