Telekom Live at STFU Glasgow, 8 November 2014. The set was composed and played using only a Teenage Engineering OP-1. This recording of the original set was made later at home using Ableton Live. Wonky techno, jittery house and ending with some ambient zazzle.

http://soundcloud.com/beta5 is a Finnish synth band that started in 1987 as a hobby of Karwin siblings. Since the beginning one main aim has been to produce music with sampled animal voices.

In 1991, after owning Yamaha VSS-100 for two years, B5 published its first song with sampled animals. In 2010, after owning Korg Microsampler for two months, B5 published its first song with all instrumentation by sampled animals. In 2011, after owning the OP-1 for two weeks, B5 put up with it a song with all instrumentation by sampled animals.

Being a caffeine addict who needs cup of joe to get asleep, band leader Scops Karwin (who also hosts <a href="http://beta5.multiply.com/photos/album/5/Museum">First International Coffee Museum FICMU</a> at his house in Synthwoods) got this idea to try OP-1 first with JJ Cale classic and trade Cocaine to Caffeine. With OP-1, percussion was quickly tailored from grasshopper and cricket sounds and melody instruments from bird voices, resulting on this century remake of last century oldie. Music is about producing endorphins – having fun – and B5 definitely had fun for example in the Tombola solo in the middle of Caffeine. Backing vocals in B5 are these days sung by Scops' daughter Soma Koo.

With sampling made to be so quick &amp; easy (after paying a little fortune) as it is with OP-1, Beta5 is even more abandoning the world of factory preset synth sounds.
