With a raspy almost trembling voice Cali P is expressing what damage his friend's fear of bonding is causing to his girlfriend. On a rhythmical yet melancholic beat inspired by Caribbean and UK sounds, Cali P points out the insecurities and sleepless nights she is going through as an effect of his ghosting.  The introspective song about the issues of relationships in this digital age, launches the final phase of Cali P and TEKA´s “Vizion” album project which will be released in late September.

About the Artists

With his roots in Switzerland and Guadeloupe, Cali P bears an aura of spirituality, which is an essential part of his music. Which led him to combinations with artists like Stonebwoy & Seun Kuti (Rise Up & Shine), Capleton (Dem Ago Burn Up) or songs like “Herbalist” which got streamed 8,6 million times on Youtube. In his music & statements, he is addressing modern social issues, racism, and advocates for self-awareness. His three braided dreadlocks illustrate his faith that set as an example by his Rastafarian father. The sound aesthetic of Berlin-based producer TEKA is rooted in 70´s analog sound from Jamaica, spiced with current global music from UK, Africa, or the US. The Jamaican sound scientist Lee Perry and the legendary Studio One has a big influence on how he uses his vintage instruments like the Hammond X5, the Roland Space Echo, or the dynamic sounds of the Leslie. Within his more 20-year long career in music, he produced music with artists mainly from the Caribbean. In 2017 TEKA experimented on a new sound, which he showcased to the public in 2018 with the track “Was soll´s” by German rappers Trettmann and Megaloh. The same year he released “Baddest” with Cali P which was the first sign of their project - Vizion

Producer and multi-instrumentalist TEKA (LowLow Records) is back with a new release, nearly a year after dropping the full-length LP with Cali P, "Vizion." For the new single "Stand Up," he invited Cali and Berlin-based rapper JuJu Rogers into his studio in Kreuzberg. "My tracks bring the worlds of reggae and hip-hop together, like Cali and JuJu do in their music," TEKA says, "so to work with the both of them came naturally." 

JuJu's no stranger to mixing worlds, with roots in both New Orleans and Germany and a sound honed over decades that incorporates everything from rebellious reggae vibes to Marvin Gaye's seductive swagger. "It was an honor to work with them," he says, "I've been following their musical journey for years." 

In the session for "Stand Up," all three artists felt a vibe in the studio set off like the ignition of strike matches. 

Cali P: "When TEKA dropped the track [JuJu and I]just looked at each other and knew what had to happen. There wasn't really a discussion, the idea was right in front of us. With Juju, I wanted to make a track that has a strong revolutionary message. "Stand Up" is about the power of collective action in society, and the courage to speak out against injustice." 

With "Stand Up," TEKA, Cali P and JuJu Rogers craft a banger anthem that expresses their deepest wishes for us all to be free, rebellious spirits in the face of oppression worldwide.

VP Records continues to celebrate its 40th anniversary with the definitive, deluxe reissue of an early title by Gregory Isaacs, one of Jamaican music’s icons and VP Records’ marquee catalog artists.
When it comes to sheer volume of output, Gregory Isaacs was one of Jamaica’s most prolific singers, with more than 125 albums to his credit in a 40-plus year career. His 13 albums with VP rival that of Dennis Brown. 

VP was the first to press and distribute the touchstone LP Mr. Isaacs, the singer’s third full-length release and one of the first LPs the company handled in the US. It was originally pressed on Ossie Hibbert’s Earthquake label and entitled simply, The Greatest. In Jamaica, the album was also pressed on Trevor “Leggo” Douglas’ Cash & Carry label. The current reissue pays homage to the first edition - and VP Records’ 40th anniversary - with the return to the original artwork and labels.

Remastered by Kevin Metcalfe, the album is reissued on vinyl concurrent with the closely related dub album, Leggo Dub, and also packaged together on an expanded 32-track, double CD, including bonus tracks such as the 12-inch mix of “Mr. Know It All.” These are housed in a 6-panel digipack with 16-page booklet. The 2019 edition is the most expansive since the 2001 reissue on Blood and Fire.

The album includes the enduring hit “Slave Master,” later popularized through the live performance in the film Rockers, as well as “Set The Captive Free,” and “Storm.” The latter would become a widely reused ‘riddim,’ a rhythmic framework that was the basis of dozens of versions by different artists, including hits by Tappa Zukie (“Oh Lord”); Tristan Palma (“Spliff Tail”); and Pinchers (“Bandelero”), among others. Also in conjunction with the full release, VP will issue “Storm” b/w “Leggo Dub” on 7-inch single for the first time.

Isaacs’ catalog would grow to well over one hundred albums by the time of his death in 2010. Released in over two dozen different editions, Mr. Isaacs is second only to his iconic Night Nurse album in terms of its influence. 

VP Records will celebrate the life and music of Mr. Isaacs at multiple events in 2019 in tandem with the label’s 40th Anniversary. Mr. Isaacs will be released on July 19. His 68th birthday would have been July 15.

Caribbean-Guadeloupean -Swiss reggae artist Cali P goes hard on “Hit Like Gunshot” lyrics written while in quarantine in Gambia, West Africa during the COVID-19 pandemic. Evocative lyrics flow from a river of emotions related to the murder of George Floyd in the US city of Minneapolis by the police and the anti-racism protest movement towards change worldwide.  

A soul-stirring Afrobeats groove by Berlin-based producer Teka (also producer on Cali P’s Vizion) and acoustic guitar lines drive a potent brew of timely poetry exclaiming systematic racism, focusing on the root cause of the upheaval: "Slavery abolished but nottin’ demolished the schooling system support the damage." and calls out the injustice saying "there’s been too much unjust ruling" asking "Where is the justice, for those who die?" The artist makes searing observations in the context of his comparable safety in Africa, versus America, building his home as the bridge with its melancholic refrain states: “It happened in May….”  

A music video for “Hit Like Gunshot” filmed in Gambia, features vivid images of protesters in support of Black Lives Matter worldwide, carrying signs with messaging in solidarity. The names of many that have been victims of police brutality are listed as Cali P contemplates the global movement towards change from his perspective from the streets of Gambia.
