Microfunk Extended Podcast Episode 4 by Grad_U, Bop, Siprut & Korsun

BassdriveTunes is once again pleased to announce our twenty-fifth release, Silence Groove & Skeletone’s “Touching Midnight,” backed with Silence Groove’s “Let Me Love.” Just as Leap Day only occurs every so often, it is fitting that we deliver a pair of tracks that one simply doesn’t find everyday. 

“Touching Midnight” wastes no time, coming straight out of the gate dripping with emotion in a way that simply beckons towards the drama and breadth found deep within the composition. A carefully-placed piano riff rounds out the texture and ambiance as the track develops and moves into its epic drop, the bassline possessing an iron grip on suspense and drive. Silence Groove & Skeletone’s well-considered strings and a tasteful vocal sample add a forcefulness and impact which is carried through the main section, while still maintaining an inherent smoothness and fluidity.

“Let Me Love” shows a softer side of Silence Groove while still maintaining the highest level of production. As the piece begins, aptly-chosen melodic elements create a vibe even within the early part of the track, segueing to an inspiring vocal before the drop. As thoughtfully chosen strings add to the depth and feeling, so does just a taste of piano which concentrates just as much on the notes not being played as the ones that are.

Meanwhile his solo productions have turned dance floors across the globe upside down thanks to his powerful productions and inimitable approach to D&B.

Here Culture Shock follows up last year’s ‘Protection’ with another stunning single that’s sure to please fans of his unique style. ‘I Remember’ is progressive dance floor drum & bass at its finest. Gradually building and growing, pulling you in gently and never letting go, this track is the perfect balance of beautiful musicality and effortless, uninhibited energy. Fans of Culture Shock’s sound will be instantly infatuated with this one.

Meanwhile ‘Troglodyte’ demonstrates Culture Shock’s deeper and darker side perfectly. Rolling and bouncing along with a squelching bassline and chopped up vocal snippets this Caveman style skull smasher threatens to bash anything in its path with an immense bassline club, expertly crafted for maximum floor-shaking damage.

It’s no surprise to anyone who heard “The Touch” last year that Mortem has swiftly become one of drum and bass’ most wanted new stars. His fresh take on slick, weighty bass and scatty, flickering snares makes a good swathe of the deep, brooding DnB community back up against the wall.
This time, releasing “Revolta” on Demand, Mortem seems to be doing his own mini tour of the most highly-regarded labels in Europe, and he doesn’t disappoint. “Revolta” is a mercenary tune, rolling out smooth over scattered breaks, lashing out then reigning back, never letting its guard down.

With two huge releases from Frankee and Wickaman, Hoodlum, Mavrik & RV already doing damage across the globe. We are now ready to unleash our third; another huge single from an exciting fresh-faced producer. Kove.

Kove’s musical history saw him move from Sussex to London to produce for an electro-pop band in 2009. The following year this young producer encountered drum & bass for the first time and since then has never looked back, immersing himself in the scene and concentrating his efforts on writing his own take on the genre.

Those efforts are clearly working as Kove’s musical talent is already picking up steam thanks to a huge remix for LA music legend and ex-M83 guitarist Big Black Delta. And now his debut single for Program will cement his reputation as one to watch even further. Picked up by Andy C and heavily supported in his sets, Kove’s first outing on program is packed with essential drum & bass energy.

‘Iodine’ leads the way with a stunning musical intro that’s filled with dance floor promise. Kove slowly builds the tension with filtered drums and haunting snippets of vocal before a winding, grinding bassline smashes into the mix. This one is sure to set clubs alight whenever it’s dropped, confirming exactly why Program have given Kove their seal of approval.

Next up is ‘Open Ground’ an altogether lighter affair, fans of the deeper sound of drum & bass will love this track. As the name suggests this one is filled with wide open synths and atmospherics all of which culminate in an effortlessly rolling breakbeat and booming sub-bass combination that provides a perfect balance to Kove’s debut single for Program.
