On his second full-length 'Degenerate', Turkish producer, artist and designer Berk Çakmakçı uses a plethora of found and recorded sound to create shape-shifting compositions where noise, drone and post-club sounds are filtered through industrial textures. 'Degenerate's brooding sound design and disregard for textural uniformity —lo-fi soundbites from Youtube vids merge with sharp blasts of digital noise on short but intense ‘Spit’— is informed by the trans-international chaos of the political zeitgeist. The closer 'Nothing To Break' searches for a throughline in the current wave of destruction and death, and plays out like several movie trailers going simultaneously. Often making sharp turns within a single song, ‘Degenerate’ is ostensibly aggressive and fragmented. At the same time, it reconfigures the residue left by contemporary paranoias and obsessions. 

The album is mixed by Ahmet Türk and Berk Çakmakçı, mastered by Beau Thomas and features art by Bora Akıncıtürk and type design by Amir Jamshidi.

Today's installment in the Booms and Claps mix series comes to us from London's Lewis James in the form of a 47 minute turbo-charged high octane journey through halftime drum and bass beats, footwork, jungle, electro-influenced ghettotech and juke, and 160 bpm rave music. We've had our eye on Lewis for quite some time now, from his early self-released Bandcamp beats, to releases on the legendary Lowriders Recordings and Rua Sound, to his recent success with major uptempo bass music imprints like 1985 Music and Astrophonica Recordings, and we couldn't be more excited to see where he goes from here. From what we're hearing in this mix, it seems like he's taken an interest in the four on the floor 160 bpm electro sound that has been championed recently by folks like Fracture and Om Unit, and we certainly hope there's more to come from him in that vein. Without further ado, we're proud to present BnC Mix 047: Lewis James.

From sluggish bass-heavy slow-step pieces like Flowing, to more skittish ambient steppers like Drowning, the album has Stillhead immersed in a world of circulating chords, reverb-drenched echoes and tight rhythmic production. Cinematic and expansive from the get-go, this one will be sure to appeal to fans of this deeper end of the musical spectrum.

Displaying the power of his imagination and creativity, Livid Cheese envisioned 'a giant mammoth in the middle of an epic medieval battle. It would emit monstrous sounds while slaying entire battalions by swinging its horns and by stomping with its mighty feet.'
