Life, light and dark(Feat Annika M.B)

Back to the Volcas again: Volca Beats, Bass, and Keys. The Bass track through the Danelectro D-1 Fab Distortion pedal. All recorded on Tascam DR-05 v2. 

The pedal is quite noisy, so I tried to apply some noise reduction afterwards. Also added my usual pseudo-stereo, since the Volcas are mono (albeit in two channels), to widen it up.

The Volca Keys is an exemplary little bass machine - in my mind better than Volca Bass. You can get really rumbling bass out of the Keys, which I have a hard time finding in the Bass.

The Volcas are incredible in allowing the creativity to flow. They have basically no setup time, are very simple to program, and the workflow is extremely simple. I've missed that when working with my Elektron and Roland gear. Thanks to the simple workflow, I can land something very quickly. This took about half an hour, in total. For me, it gives me the most to go with the flow, and then not overwork the tracks. When I work too long on a track, I lose interest and the fun is gone. This may be the reason why I haven't been so productive lately. I *want* to use the more expensive gear, but it gets in the way for me. I have to think about this, hard.

Flow

Picking up an old interest that I've never indulged before. Learning to show who I am and letting stuff go. Into all sorts of music, but electronic music has a special place in my heart, especially psytech, tech house, and oldschool acid trance. I love the sounds! My all-time favourite record is Depeche Mode's Violator. I almost never listen to lyrics (the exception is Violator, basically), but very much to chords and harmonics. Fifths are my favourite! Nice harmonies, filter sweeps, and resonances can keep me occupied for a long time :) 

I'm aiming for being able to do consistent complete live jams, but until then... The tracks here are most often created by programming sequences and then jamming them together on the fly. The Volcas have no pattern chaining, so I have to change sequences at exactly the right spot manually. The TB-03 and TR-09 have better sequencers, which let a sequence finish before the next one start, which frees my hands for the synchronizing the Volca pattern changes - although it takes some brainpower to "enqueue" the pattern changes, which means changing patterns before they actually need to change. Sometimes, I have a bunch of patterns that I feel that I just have to use, but have problems making them converge - in some cases it has taken weeks. In those cases I eventually end up writing a kind of "score" laying out the pattern chaining. It is funny, though, the tracks I really like best are the ones that came very easy, and only took a few hours to make.
