Since his self-titled LP debuted on Peak Oil in 2012, M. Geddes Gengras has amassed a following for his distinctive take on synthesis, with releases on Umor Rex, Leaving, and Opal Tapes. New Lines is his anticipated homecoming to Peak Oil.

“New Lines” sees Gengras delve deeper into the copper plated, arpeggio spewing nooks and crannies of his prodigious modular synthesizers, dragging them across vast expanses of infinity oscillations via stops in Detroit techno’s neo-romantic strings (“Bushi”) and Manchester’s early 90s grime-soaked IDM clatter (“Cris Rose”).

When absorbed in its entirety, New Lines is an expansive step forward for Gengras’ futurist sonic explorations.

Ben Long debuts on SoulMatters Recordings with a 4-track EP that also features Oliver Way.

A1. Cold Crushed

This EP-titled track, ‘Cold Crushed’ by Ben long and Oliver Way sets the opening for this EP. Groovy beats and bassline, stabs that gets you moving and rhythmical succession that would touch your heart. Setting the EP to a good start.

A2. Time Range

The second track by Ben Long, ‘Time Range’ is pretty straight-forward. Tight kick with a deep synth that builds up nice and easy. Not a complex one but would definitely work the dancefloor.

A3. Inspired

Ben Long’s third track for the EP, ‘Inspired’ has what it takes to be a classic. It melts in you from the start to the end. Easy bassline, coupled with deep melodies that keeps on going, building it up sweetly with its synths. Guaranteed to raise the dancefloor with its magic. A builder in the building.

A4. Lemak Rhythm

Ben Long signing off the EP with ‘Lemak Rhythm’. Nice build up to the start of this track. Attacking it with its sharp synths onwards, before sliding it off towards the end. No better way to end this nicely curated EP.
