The tense emotional drive of ‘Lickety Split’—where deep, colourful chords float and fold sublimely over a stomping club-ready foundation and penetrating bassline—conjures up images of a transcendent moment to be shared with friends and strangers be it at Robert Johnson, Corsica Studios, or an imagined open-air setting heavy on sunlight beaming through trees. On the flip we hear the dusty and melodic warmth of ’Snaps’ exhibit Telfort's uncanny knack of crafting tough- yet-delicate grooves that mesmerise and enchant us.

"Telfort returns with a third 12” on his own imprint, following the aptly titled debut ‘In A Good Place’ and stellar follow-up ‘Lickety Split’. 

His best yet, the Edinburgh-based producer drops the evocative and soul-stirring ‘Soon I Will Embark On A Journey’, with its immense, alluring melody and downright addictive grooves. On the flip, the hazy and hypnotic ‘Until Now’ takes us further on the journey with its shimmering textures and mesmeric flow, radiating warmth through mind-soothing chords and gritty percussion. Further on, we hear a reinterpretation from Julius Steinhoff, co-founder of Smallville Records and half of Smallpeople. Serene and smooth but equally stomping and floor-ready, the melancholic strings and trickling percussion slowly develop and captivate in a sublime and entirely fitting rework.

Incoming from Scotland! While borders are still closed, it was cool to receive a sound postcard from @Telfort, who became our friend after he played twice at PPF, as well as our 10th anniversary. This fresh Roots United podcast was recorded at Telfort's home studio in Edinburgh and is full of spring energy and love to Russian friends. Enjoy.

If you're into house music, chances are you've come across the name of Telfort before. The Edinburgh-based artist has been releasing some of the underground's finest house cuts since emerging on the scene in 2014. His very first outings, a self-released trilogy of EPs stamped his mark loud and clear - quickly garnering him fans amongst music-lovers and DJs alike.Telfort also runs his own parties in his home town of Edinburgh, hosting the likes of Aziesch, Damiano von Erckert, and Cinthie. We love his work here at BB HQ, he does an excellent job at creating true house music which stands the test of time. Catch us in 15 years time...still listening to his tunes on repeat, feeling increasingly refreshed with each subsequent listen. Needless to say, we are very excited to have him on board our Mixed By series. Here's what he had to say.....

Telfort - Snaps (STW Premiere)

We first got switched onto Telfort's productions when he dropped his debut release last April to inagurate his self titled imprint, TLFT. The 12" became a firm favourite of the Phonica crew and flew off the shelves just as quickly as it arrived. He's slowly but surely carving out his own sound and now we're extremely pleased to be debuting the title track off TLFT002 here on Phonica Premieres!

The second we heard "Lickety Split" we were nodding along and tapping our feet in approval. The track opens up with joyful and optimistic pads paired with crisp percussion and once the sub-heavy kicks and squelchy bassline kick-in you get that life-afirming feeling we've all felt at sunrise after one of those classic care-free summer nights. This one's a winner and we can't wait to get our hands on it! Keep 'Em coming Sam!

Amidst all this COVID-19 chaos, we’re all in search of positive outlets.  How about one from Edinburgh hey..? The jolly Scotsman Telfort returns with his 4th EP (TLFT004), once again pressed with his very own TFLT emblem. Now if you know this chaps music, there’s a sense of precision about his records, seemingly every layer of every track mixed to perfection and this dose is no different. 

The B1 ‘It’s A Phase’ immediately stuck its chest out. An artfully repetitive house roller, made up of sharp percussion, laser-like keys and a reverberating dial tone on loop. There’s real texture in this record with rich synths that feel like the gift of flight and dense bass notes that inspire human movement. ‘It’s A Phase’  deliberately doesn’t reach any great crescendos, it coasts along with an understated authority, like all those who drive Teslas. 

Thus far, its just been Telfort pressing original material to TLFT. If I were a fortune teller, I’d say it won’t be too long before he invites other producers aboard his classy house bandwagon. Hop on and find a spare seat!
