How much they cost you? What’s the resell? 
How many units of life does that be?
How many heart beats did it cost, will it cost
To buy the things you want, or basic dignity?
How you measure children? Friends? Partners? Your elders? You get good returns? They high value? 
They a poor investment? 
What’s it take to earn 
Value when you ain’t making 
only taking money? 
Hard to measure 
what makes life worth living, 
like using only sweetness 
to indicate the value of honey.  

In one move, one impulse,
can make a year disappear,
Got it before we had it,
Felt like magic, til the curse was clear.
Everyday already been sold,
Working to the bone, nothing to show
Interest accruing, end getting farther 
not near. 
Woulda never set foot on that escalator, was out of order when I stepped on, 
now it’s running in reverse, 
faster and faster, it just keep going.
I don’t know where all the times gone,
Or if I’ll ever make it 
up to that platform.

We were modern magicians,

Turned our lives into fiction.
