Hypoxia is a new project i created to pay homage to the science fiction, late night cult film soundtracks that inspired me so much growing up. The sounds of artists like John Carpenter, Wendy Carlos, Goblin, and Vangelis played a big role to a kid who spent most of the 80's watching movies on VHS over and over again. I wanted this release to step away from the dance floor and into a broader space of contemplative drama. The Hypoxia tracks were single takes I performed live on my Buchla Music Easel, (a portable semi modular synthesizer that was originally created in the early 1970’s). The signal was then fed through Eventide Space Reverb and recorded to an old Akai reel-to-reel tape machine with no post-production, computers or overdubs.

I really wanted this project to be crafted 100% in Los Angeles, California, including me having a personal hand in every step. For me it was the first time in over a decade to take this task on my own. From writing and performing, final mastering and plating, pressing the records, creating the artwork and designing the packaging, and finally silk-screening the jackets. I purposely cut out any distributors and wanted to sell on Bandcamp, individually shipping these records to supporters directly.

Limited to 200 pressings, Hypoxia comes in an assortment of five colors, each carefully crafted by hand-mixing the vinyl materials at Capsule Labs Record pressing plant in L.A. The clear plastic case was individually hand silk-screened at Gliese media studios with the Drumcell sigil in red ink. All shipments include a 12x12 lithograph of artwork I created on a circuit-bent video processor made by Tachyons+.

of beauty that has evolved from explorations into his 
deepest emotions, visions and imagination. The Flights 
were most directly inspired by his profound connection 
with Michael Stearns' Planetary Unfolding (Continuum 
Montage 1981). You can feel that Trust is it's Brother. 
Stearns speaks of Dreams, Resonance, Unity, and Ecstasy. 
Matthew adds that this journey has been one of Healing, 
Discovery, Finding, and Transformation. The two and
their kindred are wondrous Sonic-Energetic-Midwives
helping to usher in this age of Expanded Consciousness.

The process and source are Extra and Terrestrial, 
Synthesized, Improvised (Live on Dublab Radio) Meditations. 
Sourced from the well of spiritual expression, these 
recordings were further realized in Ableton. You're flying 
through the mystical world of Gilbert William's cover, 
the software technology is dancing with circuitry, Flute, 
Harp, Hulusi, Water, Sonar, Quasar, and microtonal 
language are Tied and Dyed in the moment.

The Mind is programmed by the Heart. With an open 
Heart the Mind can apply our gifts. I asked Matthew 
what he's seen on / in his Mindflights: "Unconditional Love! 
Stillness - Centeredness," he replied. "I've seen and felt 
my ancestors, I've heard the songs of humanity . . ."

We walk together through the deserted room. Nothing here now but at its peak this was a hive; something for someone, nothing to no one. Funny how things can change, decay is everywhere but is no less shocking nonetheless.

The wind hisses, the surface dust dances, your vision blurs and skin prickles. The dubby sounds of DJ Swagger have taken over and inhabited this place, breathing through the walls they set forward a chain reaction of activity. Perhaps this place is palatable, no desireable after all.

Over the past 6 months I’ve travelled to some of the worlds biggest cities and with the greatest respect, nowhere beats the scene in Glasgow in terms of the diverse creativity happening. 

The Clyde Built compilations have documented this year after year and it's a great pleasure to work on them. Previous artists range from Cucina Povera to Hammer, Big Miz to Still House Plants, LAPS, Lo Kindre and loads more. Not to mention the many one off's and incredible projects that have formed and dissipated over the years - another exciting aspect which characterises the immediacy of the scene. 

Despite being twice the size of any of its previous successors, this year’s cast of tomorrow’s talent is no different - owing a lot to many random encounters and the community spirit as a whole for it coming together in the way it did. Life is the most effective algorithm. 

Scene stalwarts rub shoulders with the freshest of faces - turning in a solid cross section of contemporary hip hop, alongside pop edits, ambient, free jazz and plenty of cutting edge 4/4 bangers in all shapes and sizes - including political anthem of our time, MULK! Rest assured, it won’t be the last you’ll hear of this lot. 

As always, the compilation was mastered by LANDR and is available for FREE download. 

To mark the occasion, we're teaming up with the Healthy crew and hosting a party at Civic House on the 15th June with a variety of the Clyde Built contributors past and present. Check RA / FB for more..

Here at Allergy Season we like to think our fates are tied to the forces of nature, whether the rain will wash away the pollen or feed a new bloom that causes us to double up on our eye drops for the day. Lady Blacktronika is nothing if not a force of nature. On countless releases over the last decade she has continually broken and rebuilt the house music wheel, crafting tracks with a completely unique perspective, and a devastating effect on the dance floor. There is a difference between reference and reverence-- Lady Blacktronika always goes heavy on the former, and never bows to the latter. 

Across "Rave Rinse Repeat" Lady Blacktronika dissects classic samples and stitches together 4 essential tools. In "Feel So Good" the cavernous sounds of rave are whittled down to just their organic elements and paired with a stomping house beat. In "Je Te Adore (Shut That Door)" a funk bass line climbs and descends the stairs endlessly, while a whispered voice coo's in our ear. Through out the EP breakbeats, tambourines, hand drums and vocals echo and filter in a psychedelic swirl. 

Allergy Season head Physical Therapy hands in big room ready remix of "Feel So Good" under his DJ Overnite alias. Putting rave samples through the meat grinder and ending up with a buzzing acid drenched techno take.
