As we move towards a new generation of legendary artists in the making, we take a look at some of the tales they'll be telling in the form of our new series on Juicebox Music - "Fables". Etching their mark in today's world with their unique & powerful style, these individuals have a special destiny waiting for them. 

The first edition of "Fables" sees us visiting Argentina for the sounds of 'Agustin Pietrocola', 'Alan Cerra', 'Jesuan M', 'Pedro Belardo' & 'Unusual Soul', followed by a long journey north for the echos of Colombia by 'NuFects' & Mexico's 'David Podhel'. We then sail across the Pacific to listen to the songlines of the Australian brothers - 'Rodskeez' & 'Mars Monero' and then continue the passage into India to hear the mythical stories of 'Rudra' & 'Funksun'. A stopover across the border into Pakistan to witness the chronicles of 'STEREO MUNK' & 'Cryptic Realms' and finally flying over to Sweden for the Nordic folktale of 'EMPHI'. These are their Fables.

DJ Ruby is the most prolific underground dance music artist who loomed from the party island of Malta, amassing a huge fan base that follows him unconditionally, as well as an established name throughout the global dance music industry, mainly in the progressive scene.

Renowned for curating flawless journey sets and delivering an energetic positive party vibe wherever he performs, DJ Ruby is considered a true pioneer of his caliber, a hard-working and modest person who has always matured with the scene. He now boasts 30 years of experience, in which he obtained countless achievements and acclaims which are impossible to mention all in a few lines.

DJ Ruby is responsible for being a major force in starting and shaping Malta’s elite dance music scene into what it is today. For many years, he hosted countless events under the Pure Promotions brand, setting trends for various clubbing concepts on the island, and introducing multiple generations to electronic dance music.

An active career that started in the early 90s, and still going strong to date, saw DJ Ruby being featured at Malta’s most notable dance events, opening for many of the world’s legendary names such as Faithless, The Prodigy, Sasha, John Digweed, Carl Cox, Paul Oakenfold, Hernan Cattaneo, Sven Vath & Nick Warren, as well as holding residencies at influential dance music institutions in the country, including a billing at all Renaissance parties in Malta throughout the 2000’s decade.

Over the years, DJ Ruby’s gig diary has formed to be more like an atlas. He has performed in every continent of the world and is still regularly touring to play in venues all over the globe. From New York to Sydney, to London, there is no clubbing city or destination that DJ Ruby hasn’t experienced as a DJ. Apart from performing in clubs & underground parties, he was also featured at notorious festivals such as Timewarp, Ozora, Transmission, Berlin’s Love Parade, Creamfields, and Tomorrowland Unite.

As a music producer, DJ Ruby holds a vast discography of his own productions, remixes, 3 albums, and multiple compilations. Many of his tracks are regularly supported by the planet’s leading DJs, with most of his music always finding a place in Beatport charts or selections.

Juicebox Music's 68th release welcomes Anton Borin & Montw to the fold for their debut appearance with a 2-track EP featuring "Obsidian" & "Firebird". Kick-starting their collaboration fairly recently, the Moscow (Russia) based duo found a sweet spot to combine their styles. With individual releases on Mango's 'Mango Alley' & Bondarev's 'WARPP' to name a few, Anton Borin & Montw's hypnotic, melodic & groovy music has become a staple amongst many tastemakers & fans alike. Their latest offering is a pair of juxtaposed singles to showcase their creative sides; "Obsidian" features a strong drive leading up to a soulful melody only to be peaked by a contrasting twist in it's final phase while "Firebird" sees them focusing primarily on the development of a strong groove accompanied by a earworm riff, perfect for darker rooms.

For the first remix, we're excited to welcome back Fabri Lopez to the label. The Villa Mercedes native from Argentina first made his debut on Juicebox Music through his powerful & euphoric remix of Bachir Salloum's "Of Time and Space" in early 2021. Since then, he's made strides with releases on Armen Miran's 'Hoomidaas' & Nick Warren's 'The Soundgarden' and now for his return, Fabri Lopez reworks Anton Borin & Montw's "Obsidian" into a monster with a more darker & heavier approach.

Closing the pack is one of the label's core-artists, Bangalore (India) based Aman Anand. His journey with the imprint stretches far with so many significant releases with the latest being his collaboration with label-owner Praveen Achary on "Fiasco". Exploring through experimentation, Aman pursues an evolution in his sound with refinement & out-of-the-box sound-design as his key priorities. He takes on Anton Borin & Montw's "Firebird" with the same goal, injecting his signature groove and cleverly warping & contorting the original hook to deliver a memorable moment.

We couldn't have found a better kick-off for 2024 than with the incredible Tonaco from Brazil! [ @tonacomusic ].

We are absolutely thrilled to have Tonaco as our latest guest mix artist on Temporary Sounds. 

The waning scene of the electronic music in Tocantins is similar to the Cerrado, the local vegetation that has a low nutrient soil that forces the flora to have long roots in order to receive nutrients. In the same way, Tonaco had to cover more ground and deepen his research with the intent to find musical references away from his reality in that region. Always focusing to internacionalize his music, he developed his own sound identity, distinctive of a strong and spacial progressive, ideal for any intense moment of the night. His productions are able to associate the Brazilian swing and psychedelia to dark and strong timbres, summarizing a mix of his references that vary since Jazz, Bossa Nova, Samba, bands like Pink Floyd to the DJs and producers Hernan Cattaneo and Guy J. This internationalisation has produced results that can be proven by his Pakistan tour, as well as his various launches in Meanwhile, Mango Alley, Onedotsixtwo, WARPP, Transensations, Balkan Connection and more. Hailing from the vibrant city of Patras, Greece, Costa Vaya isn't just a DJ; he's a storyteller who speaks through his music. Born in the early 80s in Zurich, his musical journey started with the pioneering beats of techno, echoing from Detroit to Europe.

Upon moving to Greece, Costa delved into vinyl collection and swiftly made his mark, earning weekly residencies and monthly gigs by the age of 17. Influenced by local mentors Siampanis P and G-kash, as well as the house pioneer Akylla, Costa's sets oscillate between the emotional and the raw, seamlessly navigating the realms of house and techno.

A dedicated student of music technology and audio engineering in Athens, Costa Vaya began crafting his own sounds, producing tracks that echo his passion for the dance culture. Beyond the turntables, he extends his creative energy to composing scores for films, theatrical plays, and documentaries.

Today, Costa is a fixture in the Greek and European music scene, collaborating with industry stalwarts in countless gigs. His focus extends to the creation of an "old school" music label, embracing vinyl cuts exclusively with a "hand to hand" distribution approach. In essence, Costa Vaya is on a mission to return to the roots, delivering quality sounds and preserving the authenticity of the underground movement.
