Irradiation once again impressively demonstrates what contemporary experimental electronic music set between applied quantum physics and the dancefloor sounds like. Wave Function continues and concentrates the paths outlined on her EP Black-Body Radiation released this year’s June.

Whereas Black-Body Radiation commented on symmetry fractures and superpositions, Wave Function exposes what is promised by the EP-title: the topics of form and function. Wave Function is just as much techno as it is concrete sound art, bound together by heavy bass-oriented rhythm complexes and sparse melody soundscapes. The record’s hypnotic atmospheres might trick the listener. Check out the ambient track P-Branes: Are mole-cules playing a sound game, or is it noise filtering through your astronaut’s helmet while journeying the interstellar sea of tranquillity? Or take the highly ambivalent intro of Wave Function, changing into sequences of beats that blast classic Detroit Techno into a present-day setting.

For his remix, Evirgen outlines techno’s patterns of the mechanical as well as the tribal, which turns Wave Function into a very energetic trance and dance experience. Mstep’s remix on the other hand focuses on the abstraction of beats. Twisted dark layers of IDM morphing back and forth into phrases of acid techno, all on the fundament of intriguingly interlaced bass lines.

In the past, Digilog released the EP Drive In on Yoshi Vienna and appeared on Pomelo Records 20 years compilation together with Electro Guzzi and as a remixer on Black Body Radiation, a part of Irradiation series together with Milton Bradley (Grounded Theory). 

Now he returns to his home base TEMP~Records with the 4 tracker EP Dark Places.
It opens with Dark Place, a track with almost a movie-like quality. The crime has been committed, the car is racing fast into the nothingness, but the conscience can’t be escaped from. The guilt spiral is circling in heavy, fast rhythm of heart in fear…

Jumping Circus indeed jumps about in elastic beat, which as well as the previous track uses high tones in dissonance to evoke the dark background full of deceit and drill behind the shiny glamour show.

Next scene, Next Stop. The percussions are trembling from the tremor caused by heavy kicks, the melody lines are distorted in foreboding smiles and menacing synth shrieks.

The last track Invaders Won’t Talk is built with a mysterious synthesizer tremolo and industrial, massive beat lacking kick-drum, but leaking trickles of turbid and rusty synth pads.

You can’t escape dark places; they lurk everywhere.

The vastness of space-time is the main theme in the latest work of electronic music artist Irradiation. Inspired by hard science fiction literature, the Viennese musician transforms scientific theories of cosmology and quantum physics into music. Her new album refers to the Xeelee Sequence, a series of stories written by the British author Stephen Baxter.

Think about a universe ruled by an enigmatic alien race of techno images you might never even see or won‘t be able to imagine – their civilisation is too advanced and too old. Existing nearly since the beginning of the universe for billions of years and engaged in projects which threaten the fragile fabric of space-time itself. Is it possible that these aliens do it all for a greater good?
Humans tend to destroy what they don’t understand. So dark times are ahead.

The eerie works of Irradiation show no way out of this disturbing scenario. The acoustic space is vast, the soundscapes are dark, as one imagines the Xeelee-Universe. The album is full of twisted time paradoxes and sounds stretched ad infinitum – frozen time is the constant in this techno-electronical world.
Some parts will work in the darker corners of a techno bunker, but most of the music will make you just want to be sucked in, like into a black hole. Resistance is futile.

TEMP~Records was founded in 2003 in Austria as collaboration between the organizers of the renowned TEMP~Festival. The concept was to catch the mood and spirit of the festival's music and to provide it permanently. Consequently, TEMP~Records presented different styles of electronic music to their fans.
After a break, 2011 TEMP~Records restart again as an independent underground techno/minimal label with more or less the same collective behind. Artists from all over the world are planned for releases, but the main focus is on Austrian artists and to establish a platform to attract the attention they deserve. The musical emphasis is on dubby/techno/minimal/experimental styles with addiction to a trippy, dark and melancholic soul – but ultimately, it's the love for music and the demand for quality in music that we like.
