Avenue Red's 10-year celebrations ball keeps on rolling with a football match-length mix from Preston North End's numero uno fan, Tommy Harrison, who is one half of Quadrant Soundscape (as featured twice on the podcast series) and the awesome Dub Explorations show and long-running event of the same name. Andy: "nearly 20 years ago (when all this was fields) a few old heads were coalescing in the nascent discogs forums and where i first got to 'know' Alastair [AEK]. they were exciting times and the dub techno threads helped to broaden my musical horizons beyond its berlin focus. Alastair was generous enough to share a good chunk of his knowledge, introducing me to less obvious labels and artists from scandinavia and japan. back to now and the scene is still thriving (at least artistically) and many of those emerging artists have since become 'real' people and important friends that i've since shared projects with on my adventures. i'm proud of, and impressed by Al's notable impact with lempuyang, his impeccable taste and sustaining the vinyl community.. even in these challenging times. my sincere thanks for then and now x

Hope you all get some pleasure from this set which is nearly all from records, naturally i wanted to bring together some of those labels, proponents of the sounds we love and friends that are important to me as a collector and DT head on a meandering 2 hours.

Quadrant Soundscape presents In Focus 005

The 5th installment of our In:Focus Series delves deep into a record label that we have a lot of love for. They have such a diverse array of sounds and styles that you can keep going back to again and again.

 We present to you, Ornaments.

  Ornaments was started back in 2008, and has been home to some of the worlds finest purveyors of the deep. Just a quick flick through the discography and you’ll find names like Rhauder, Paul St. Hilaire, youANDme, Moodymann, The Analog Roland Orchestra, Carlos Nilmmns, Rennie Foster, Sascha Dive, Steve Bug and Mathimidori to name just a few.

  As a label Ornaments covers a huge variety of sounds. You can find everything from Ambient, Deep House, Dub House, Hip hop, Dub Techno and minimal.   

Their most recent record came from Wareika with his LP - Tizinabi and is the 54th release. As is the case with all the mixes in our InFocus Series, the problem is not what to include but what can we possibly leave out. It’s safe to say however that due to variety of musical output by Ornaments that we will certainly be re-visiting the back catalogue for a part 2 at some point in the future.

Bio: 
antec is a Berlin based DJ, raised in the early 90s Berlin Techno Scene. There were two fix points in his universe – the Hard Wax Recordstore, where he spent most of his daytime and at night the Tresor Club. First DJing at illegal basement parties in Berlin and self-organized raves outside the city and mid to end of the 90s he was one of the Tresor Club Berlin Headquaters residents with the likes of Alexander Kowalski and others. The music was characterized by the Berlin – Detroit sound of this time. His sets were dominated by the sound of Basic Channel, Axis Records, Tresor Records, Downwards and other straight and hard Techno. Besides that, at all times antec was openminded to other musical influences and all kinds of good electronic music. But one sound he never gets tired … Dub Techno.

Monosphere is commissioning his new design creation.

The multi-purpose research unit with flight number 84 has been successfully launched and has already delivered all mission participants to the orbit of the Mesozoic planet. The cruiser is equipped with an elaborate communication system and consists of various parts: an engineering deck, photon torpedo launchers, defence deflectors, an antimatter converter and proton sails.

A majestic landscape opens up from the observation compartment. Climbing onto the command deck, it is possible to see every detail out there with the help of advanced analysis mechanisms. Auxiliary shuttles provide rapid transportation of crew members to and from the celestial body. Right now, however, the docking airlocks are inactive because something important is happening.

An electro-sonic workshop with collectable dub-techno textures captures the attention of the entire crew. The piercing aesthetic of information becomes a real discovery surrounded by pile-driving percussion, atomic pads, delays and reverbs. The non-linear drawing of the acoustic structure builds up a story by fixing the reference points: interstellar synthesiser dust, shimmering vocal pulsars, amorphous lows and omnipresent rhythmic asteroids.
