Command Strange is back at the controls for his first solo V Recordings release since his Rockin EP at the tail end of 2019. Since, Alexey spent twelve months touring Europe, USA and a string of festivals (pre-COVID), and 2020 saw him release two collaborative releases with Danny Wheeler on Liquid V. His 2020 release schedule also featured an EP on Fokuz, a single with L-Side, as well as two killer remixes.

We're really excited to have him back with us for the Mystery EP, a four track body of work featuring T.R.A.C., Christina Tamayo and MC Fava. Recently Alexey has been spreading his wings in terms of experimentation, delving more into the harder, more dance-floor orientated styles, but for this EP he shifts the focus back to his more soulful, funky style.

Methxx04 takes an international direction and sees the Metalheadz debuts of  ArpXP & Reza hailing from Italy and Poland respectively.

"Unknown Feeling" by Reza is a dubbed out minimal journey into drum and bass. Melancholy chords combine with snippets of vocal and a sparse break, which are all underpinned by the weightiest of basslines. With two tracks of this quality it's no wonder this release is a double A side.

Collectively the two tracks make for a killer release - yet another gem in the much sought after METHXX catalogue

Reza - Unknown Feelings

Terabyte Records are back with another set of tidy rollers dredged from the dark side of Britain’s burgeoning D&B scene. Staying true to their maxim of hard minimal beats produced by fledgling talent, the boys at Terabyte HQ are proud to announce their ninth instalment, ‘Tense / Waiting’, supplied by Southampton’s Kush T. As one of that new breed of producers fusing ice cold production with real flair for the deep and interesting, Kush T proves here that he’s got what it takes to play with the big boys; he would surprise nobody if he arrived at the Metalheadz camp in the future.

The A-side, ‘Tense’, is moody and minimal, and represents the future sound of DnB. Tense leaves you in no doubt where it got its name; the opening warcry sets the tone for his release (and maybe even career). The intro is pressure personified, replete with hollow, empty pads, a low, menacing vocal and drums that rattle gently, like trees creaking at the coming storm, and drops like the opening of the heavens. The vicious drums stamp on top of a harsh metallic bassline that rolls into a switch up that’d make a priest cry. Couple that with the pithy, laconic vocals of Serge, and you’ll soon realise this tune is very naughty indeed.

Where ‘Tense’ really embodies the murky darkness, ‘Waiting’ stands outside in the light. While no less intricate than it’s predecessor, it’s got an edge that’ll appeal to the thinkers out there. As a tune, it rises through a dreamy, synthetic start to climb out, fully formed into a leftfield, halftime weapon designed for home systems and club rigs alike. 

After a brief hiatus over the summer, Terabyte Records are back to what they do best, plucking young producers from relative obscurity, and delivering them onto the big stage; Tephra & Arkoze’s recent success on Basher’s Proximity Recordings is the epitome of Terabyte’s efforts. Proving that sometimes, bigger isn’t better, ‘Tense’ and ‘Waiting’ are serious additions to the growing Terabyte catalogue and a sign of things to come in the winter months. Enjoy.
