The Terabyte Records behemoth is well and truly rolling for 2018 with the arrival of it’s latest release from UK-based duo Quantum Mechanix, who’s relationship with the label stems back to the ‘Hardwired_001’ LP in 2015. Since then the pair have seen a string of releases on labels including Nurtured Beatz, and are returning to Terabyte with a firebrand single. 

The a-side, ‘Run This’, fuses a dark and eerie intro sequence with hard hitting drum work; think of a Hydro & War tune with new boxing gloves on. 

If those boxing gloves weren’t punching hard enough, the b-side ‘Vendetta’ is this year’s heavyweight champion, giving Dom & Roland, Technical Itch, and maybe even Ed Rush & Optical something to think about. 

‘This single is seriously aggressive. Over the last few years we’ve put out a lot of half-time, beats, juke and footwork. It’s about time we came back to the sounds that got Altered Perception and I into D&B in the first place – cold, hard dancefloor killers. Quantum Mechanix do that in spades’, said label co-owner Auzi.

Command Strange is back at the controls for his first solo V Recordings release since his Rockin EP at the tail end of 2019. Since, Alexey spent twelve months touring Europe, USA and a string of festivals (pre-COVID), and 2020 saw him release two collaborative releases with Danny Wheeler on Liquid V. His 2020 release schedule also featured an EP on Fokuz, a single with L-Side, as well as two killer remixes.

We're really excited to have him back with us for the Mystery EP, a four track body of work featuring T.R.A.C., Christina Tamayo and MC Fava. Recently Alexey has been spreading his wings in terms of experimentation, delving more into the harder, more dance-floor orientated styles, but for this EP he shifts the focus back to his more soulful, funky style.

This latest body of work, entitled 'The Nexus' EP, connects all the fragments of their idiosyncratic, high-octane sound, acting as a captivating four-track frenzy that draws influence from early Detroit techno and D&B royalty alike.

Previously known as Gerra & Stone, the pair have risen rapidly in recent years with a finely polished sound that is truly unique to them. GEST lay out the blueprints of what they're all about with the opening sounds of 'Nexus', with a clear emphasis on the duos underground, dancefloor-oriented sound intertwined with an abundance of techno-inspired synth work throughout.

As we delve into the EP, 'Concentrate' adds yet another master-crafted roller to their collection of groove-centric tracks, whilst 'Stayed On My Mind' provides a melodious infusion of deep subs, beguiling vocal loops, and pronounced percussive elements to the EP.

Last, but by no means least, 'Reverence' sees GEST draw heavy influence from one of their heroes in the form of the late and great Marcus Intalex. Defined by crisp, rolling drums, ambient synth work, and an underlying aura of luxuriant atmosphere, the melodic, almost soothing melody intertwined with ‘Reverence’ clearly draws from the inspiration of Marcus Intalex’s legendary sound.

Through its 10-year history, Skankandbass has been dedicated to the official promotion of drum & bass, and providing a platform for up-and-coming talent.  It was through the launch of its record label that they took it to the next level, and since its first release in late 2015, Skankandbass Records has provided an exposure platform that is second to none for some of the scene’s most exciting newcomer producers.

To see the successes of the label alumni, you need not look any further than the tracklist of SNB50.  Skankandbass’ most ambitious release yet, the various artists EP features the reworking of five of the most distinct cuts from the label’s short history. 

Recent Metalheadz signee Grey Code’s excellent track ‘Veilig’ is given a hypnotic rework by Data 3, while Mitekiss (fresh off the release of his debut LP on Hospital) is remixed by Shogun residents Deadline. Critical signee Cruk, the extremely talented Klinical, and Particle (whose Original Nuttah bootleg tore through the scene last year) round off the release, all with stellar efforts. 

Releasing on Friday 19th April 2019, SNB050 is a testament to the incredible talent which Skankandbass has always attempted to shine a light on, and will be celebrated with a takeover of room three of the iconic fabric London on the same night of release.
