The Magic Movement kicks off 2022 with a collaborative EP from Argentina’s Guuse and Berlin's Magic Jams, entitled ‘If It Were For Us’ and featuring remixes from Benjamin Fröhlich, The Oddness and RSS Disco.

On this EP, Guuse, a multi-instrumentalist and composer based out of Buenos Aires, Argentina, teams up with Magic Jams, the new Disco leaning project of label head Noema, an artist living between Berlin and Istanbul who’s been DJing, producing and collecting music since 1997.

The title-track ‘If It Were For Us’ leads the release, a dreamlike journey fusing rich textures, psychedelic guitars, bubbling arpeggios and ethereal vocals, resulting in the perfect soundtrack for a California coastline cruise in a droptop Cadillac. Are you ready to ride?

Daniel Weil learned to DJ at Le Baron, this tiny Parisian club where he held his first residency ever. After a decade of traveling from club booths to the festival stage later, eclectism has remained ever since as one of the main components of his music blends. Not only as a DJ but also while doing music supervision for clients such as Dior, being the music director for clubs like David Lynch’s Silencio or curating his label Motordiscs; Daniel’s life purpose is to select a soundtrack that will upgrade the reality.

There’s a subtle undertone in Puerto Escondido. And it comes from Sommo. As the sun sets and the stars emerge in the night sky, the hypnotic melody fills the air. People gather in a dimly lit room, shedding their clothes and any inhibitions, baring their souls to the music. The melody is gentle yet insistent, gradually stripping away any layers of pretense until all that remained was sensual and raw. 

The beat quickens, pulling the dancers out of their reverie and back to the present moment. The rhythm of the music syncs with the pounding of their hearts: they are no longer lost in the astral realm, but grounded firmly in the here and now. The music is their guide - the pulse of the universe.

Reinhard Vanbergen presents Get Yours!, a neo-psychedelic concept album that maneuvers the different shapes of guitar music throughout history. The music moves from cracking Americana riffs to 80’s jangle pop to blissed out boogie grooves with what seems a dreamlike ease, disparate sound images blending in and out of each other in these strangely poignant melodic patterns.

As on the opener, ‘Supreme Tux’, which evokes a retro-futuristic wedding band striking a note that manages to sound both woefully kitsch and hauntingly beautiful at the same time. Or on ‘Servant’ where a jaunty hillbilly groove meets electro synths in what becomes an ineffably hypnotic sequence.

You soon realize that you’re in Vanbergen’s own anachronistic playground, a sort of Doctor Who adventure skating across space and time on paths cut by the artist’s melodic imagination. What we get is an album that doesn’t take itself too seriously yet ends up offering material that is interesting and original beyond the easy-listening pleasures.

The record is also a tribute to Reinhard’s long-time guitar-manufacturer Guttlin Guitars, with all instruments on the record except beats and synths made by him, and all tracks taking their name after his guitar models.
