Mix Eight is from revered producer, DJ and artist, Richard Fearless.

Richard Fearless is an artist and musician, born and raised in Africa, lived and studied in London, New York and currently resides in London.

Known to most as the founder of seminal pysch-rock outfit Death In Vegas, Richard's work now flows between many different mediums. A visual artist, producer, DJ and filmmaker...

Almost 20 years into his odyssey he is able to pick out certain guiding impulses which seem to govern his work, repetition, space, psychedelia...

"I'm happiest switching from one medium to another but I guess always searching for a broken beauty, light in the dark, the dark in the light..." 

After moving back to London from NYC in 2012 Richard took on a studio at Andrew Weatherall's HQ where he wrote his last release under Death in Vegas 'Trans-LOve Energies' much to critical acclaim. 

Richard is currently producing the second album for Dark Horses and on the cusp of launching his own imprint, Drone, as well as prepping his first major art show in London next year.

"This is a journey through the murky depths of the Metal Box, Drone's shipping container down on Bow Creek. I've wanted to do an ambient mix for a while now and getting asked to part of this fantastic series gave me an opportunity to play the likes of IKe Yard, DIE Bunker, Steve Moore, Taj Mahal, Klaus Shultze, Virgin Prunes, Bee Mask, sounds that are on heavy rotation down here in the Metal Box but tracks that I rarely get to play out. Hope you enjoy this sonic trip..."

"Since moving to Berlin last year I’ve been obsessed with the Flea Markets, they are goldmines for all kinds of gems. The tunes in this mix are all a result of the last 12 months digging. Mixed on a cold Friday night with a nice bottle of Pinot Noir.

The mix tells the story of John Wintergreen a motorcycle cop who patrols the highways in rural Arizona with his partner Zipper. Wintergreen has aspirations to be transferred to homicide and when Crazy Willie tells him of an apparent suicide he get’s his chance. This chance is short lived as Wintergreen falls off the rails trying to solve the murder."

Mix Eleven is from producer, performer, record shop owner, actor and visual artist, Khan.

Can "Khan" Oral, born of Turkish-Finnish parents in Frankfurt/M works and lives as a music- and film-music producer, performer, actor and visual artist in Berlin since 2002.
Living in NYC from 1992-2002 he owned the electronic record shop Temple Records Soho/NYC inside Liquid Sky, hosted downtown art events and parties, run three record labels and produced and performed with a variety of artists and projects such as: Captain Comatose, Diamanda Galas, Julee Cruise (Twin Peaks), Kid Congo Powers (The Cramps/Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds) or Brigitte Fontaine with whom he won the Qwartz Award 2010 for best song in France.

Can "Khan" Oral hosted a monthly party at the Berlin techno institution Berghain and tours internationally solo or with various artists and projects.
In 2012 Khan worked on an opera piece with Stereo Total, a theatre production for Hau3/Berlin called "Wir sind ein Bild aus der Zukunft". Currently performing a Franz Kafka piece at Stadttheater Bremerhaven directed by Amina Gussner.

Extensive group and solo exhibitions in Germany and abroad displaying social works useing photography and sound. He presented his photo-book/box-set "Angels Of Disguise" (Fantome Verlag 2013) at Import/Export Kassel's documenta13.

Khan's latest long player "The Enlightenment Machine" is out now on Albumlabel, a brand new sub-division of Berlin's Shitkatapult/Random Noize Muzik.

ABOUT THE MIX

"Khan's Radio Hour" is a one hour mix of tracks that usually end up last on an album's tracklisting.  
Those tracks the artist does not know where to place. The tracks that do not 'fit'.  
These songs are usually quite square in the beginning when you start listening to an album, but in many cases become your favorite track in the end.
In a radio style I compiled those out-takes with voice over introductions to give it more of a radio feel.
The opening track on here is from my latest album 'The Enlightenment Machine', the song 'Everybody Is A Bell' wants to make clear that not only is each song a cosmos by itself but also every person has it's own sound or ring, and that's why life is beautiful. Enjoy!"

San Francisco Bay Area native Marc Barrite’s alias Dave Aju has become a reliable name for fresh and expressive electronic music over the last decade, combining a deep knowledge and passion for dance music history with a fearless, forward-thinking approach to production and performance. A diverse range of influences, from his jazz upbringing and hip-hop roots to the outer realms of experimental rock and musique concréte can be heard in Aju’s unique sound.

Dave Aju remixes, DJ sets, and live performances are in high demand at labels, clubs, and festivals across the globe. And now, following the success and praise for his debut album Open Wide – created entirely with his mouth, and the acclaimed autobiographical follow-up Heirlooms, Aju is more active than ever further developing his musical universe, including some promising collaborations such as the voice of Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts’ new band project The Side Effects, new works for Matthew Herbert’s Accidental label and more recently the release of his 3rd studio album, Black Frames.

"This is a one-take vinyl mix of a few personal non-club classics that recall beautiful moments and people in my life. From the moment I first saw The Skull Sessions LP artwork in my father's collection as a kid, and being blown away at the first Tortoise show a good friend took me to almost 20 years ago, to landing in Brazil on tour with Arthur Verocai in the headphones, smashing down the 101 South freeway bumping J Dilla in summertime heat, or playing notorious SF bar nights with the Magnificent 7 DJ collective. 

Most of the records were just pulled from storage back home in the Bay Area last month and brought back overseas to Berlin, so in many ways this was like having a nice catch-up session with old friends while introducing them to some new ones I've met more recently. The mix was made in the cave with two Technics 1210 MK2s, a Rane Empath mixer, some pretty nasty back-up needles borrowed from Mike Shannon, and love."

Mix Two is from renouned curator, label owner, broadcaster, DJ, producer and general lover of all things strange and wonderful, Jonny Trunk.

Jonny Trunk started Trunk records in 1995. Since then it has become a pioneering and influential label, finding unreleased British film music, library music and related recordings and issuing it to a dedicated following. As well as being one of the leading collectors of film music and outsider recordings he has created books about library music graphics, supermarket packaging and even rubber clothing. He writes for the music press and is a frequent broadcaster on anything from Radio 3 to 6 Music. His soundtrack radio show on Resonance FM (the UK's radio arts station) has been running for eight years and is listened to the world over. When he is not doing any of the above he is sitting about staring at his incredibly big head in the mirror.

Mix Four comes from renowned producer, DJ and head of the wonderful Claremont 56 label, Paul Murphy... 

Paul Murphy aka Mudd has been DJing for 21 years and producing for 17 of those. His first release, as part of Akwaaba in 1995, ‘Just Pilau’ (on The Idjut Boys Discfunction label) was his entry into the mid 90’s nu disco era. ‘Just Pilau’ was an instant classic and got quickly licensed to Francois Kevorkian’s ‘Essential Mix’ compilation and Ron Trent’s ‘Musical Reflections’ album. This success set the band up to release two acclaimed albums, ‘Do it Tomorrow’ and ‘Too Shiny’ with remixes following for Tummy Touch, Strut, Bear Funk and Session Records.

Akwaaba split in 2003 and Mudd went on to record his first solo album, ‘Claremont 56’ for Rong Music and followed this by setting up his own label, also titled ‘Claremont 56’ with the first release by Mudd & Pollard, ’Villa Stavros’. 40 or so releases later, Claremont 56 is going strong, with a discography including the sell-out compilation series, ‘Originals’ and unreleased mixes of Holger Czukay’s epic back catalogue of works. 

In his own recording career, Mudd has been one half of Smith & Mudd since 2000, working alongside partner Benjamin James Smith. The balearic classic ‘Shulme’ was their first vinyl release and was voted no 1 track of the year by the DJ History Forum in 2006. Two albums followed, ‘Blue River’ and ‘Le Suivant’ and the duo have continued to mix their influences and lead the way in the modern day balearic scene. 

Mudd’s latest project, ‘BISON’, also formed with Benjamin James Smith, includes krautrock legend, Holger Czukay from ‘Can’ and Salvatore Principato from the cult NY 80’s band ‘Liquid Liquid’. Their first single ‘Way to LA’ has already become a downtempo classic and the second, ‘Soup Fiction’ is sure to follow. Mudd has also worked with Jazz drumming legend, Chico Hamilton on the release ‘Kerry’s Caravan’ and Ahmed Fakroun, a pioneer of modern Arabic world music, on ‘Drago’. He is also working on a new live band project with Bing Ji Ling and Patrick Dawes from Groove Armada on an album project called ‘Paqua’.

Mudd has DJ’ed across the world and recently has played at Seco in Japan, Stockholms award winning club night ‘Slow Blow’, Lux in Portugal, Harvey's Sarcastic Disco in LA, PS1 festival at MoMa New York and has been a regular feature on London’s club scene playing at Fabric, 333, The Cross and the Horse & Groom.
