DJ Rascal - Deep in the Groove

Panthera Krause's music-making habits teeter on the precipice between moody and outright fun house; a technique which has done wonders for the Leipzig melody maker since his early years. The mould was set with his weekly podcasts and 2012's "Cassandra" on local imprint O*RS. Then further solidified via the Yorikke EP in 2013 - a three-track mid-summer trip on Riotvan - and the delights of his Rules EP (2014) on Lobster Theremin and the Laika EP (2014) on Riotvan.

The Uncanny Valley connection was established during the back end of last year. The pumping “Coochie” formed part of the Uncanny Valley: Five Years On Parole release and was quite the foretaste. And here we arrive at "Umami"; a lesson in colourful and let-loose four-to-the-floor which first saw light on our recent Dresden show with the UV fam.

The Underwater years from 2002 and 2004 gave birth to the new Gusgus setup with Earth as the lead singer.  The involvement of Darren Emersons label manager and his successful selection off remixers for the hit "David" was important part of re-establishing this new lineup.  This was not the first interaction of the band with Darren Emerson and his label as the first release on his label was the track with Tworld, Anthem in 1994.  As some of you might know Tworld merged into Gusgus when the band was formed in 1995.  Here is one of these remixes of David, carefully remastered for you.

Dancing has been an intrinsic element of cultural development in every society on Earth, and has existed in multitudinous forms since time immemorial. For many, it is a pure expression of joy, a release of inhibition and a communal act of passion and celebration. For others however, it can induce self-consciousness and social anxiety which, combined with peer pressure or societal expectations, can lead to distress.

Fortunately, there is a solution to this predicament, thanks to the tireless efforts of a Copenhagen based Groove expert in the early 90’s. After extensive studies of dance styles throughout history, Rune Weise Kofoed was able to isolate a dance move which was not only as culturally universal as laughter, but also induced no adverse effects in even the most severe cases of dancer's anxiety. He called this move “Dorsi Plantar”, and it instantly became so popular that it was commonly performed by those who had never heard of it. Its versatility was so great that it was appropriate for every genre of music, and its execution so straightforward and intuitive that it could be achieved by dancers of all ages and skill levels. For all these reasons and more, Dorsi Plantar is now the single most common dance move anywhere in the world, and is generally recognised as being “Perfectly Normal Behavior.”

Following the success of this dance revolution, Rune has gone on to create a musical movement of the same name. Like the dance move, this music has been developed through an exhaustive search of historical material, which had been carefully recorded onto vinyl for posterity. These records were collected and combined under the name Dorsi Plantar to create a new rhythmic creation with the same universal appeal and ease of enjoyment which made his infamous move such a huge success. Now, for the first time, Kyoku Records have been given the opportunity to present Dorsi Plantar’s phenomenal creations as a collectible vinyl pressing, featuring an exclusive remix by Paxton Fettel. This is an exclusive track I recorded for the "Drumpoems verse 2" compilation. it's a quite moody song with a singing bassline and a catchy melody...kinda like an old Quarion song ;-)

As for the title, it goes a little something like this: my dad was a diplomat so when I was a child/teenager i used to live in many different countries, making a lot of friends but having to leave them after 2 years. Flash forward in 2008 and I stumble accross people that I haven't seen in 15 years on that monster that is Facebook. I had a rush of various emotions when I saw some old pictures or learned what happened to all these friends over the years...and so it all materialized into this track.
