Hace mucho tiempo que quise sacar ese mixtape y ahora que salió el sol...es la hora!!

La inspiración de ese mix viene de un concepto sencillo: reimaginar unos temas que me encanta en un estilo cumbiero, más lento, más sabrosos ;) Mientras que estaba terminando mi EP Cumbias Imaquinarias (https://elbuho.bandcamp.com/album/cumbias-imaquinarias-ep) volví a enamorarme de la cumbia y su ritmo delicioso y pues asi nació el mixtape que mezcla todo desde Burial hasta Manu Chao y mucho más...

Espero que disfruten esta selección de música que ya conocen pero tal vez en un nuevo contexto o unos nuevos descubrimientos. Voy a agregar un playlist pronto pero por el momento escucha, disfruta y viaja!!! 🌞 ☀️ 🌞

I have been sitting on this mixtape for a little while now but decided, the sun is shining, it's time for some new music.

This mix is inspired by a simple concept: some tunes I love reimagined in a new context cumbiero. As I was finishing my last EP Cumbias Imaquinarias (https://elbuho.bandcamp.com/album/cumbias-imaquinarias-ep) I  went back to some Cumbia roots and decided to make this slightly mad mixtape of all sorts of music with Cumbia as the thread running through the mix. Everything from Manu Chao to Burial ;)

This one has been in the works for a while but didn't actually make it out in 2021 but hey, what does the month or even the year matter anymore? This is a series for what was and well, 2021 -2022 has been pretty wild for the world (aren't they all lately?), oscillating between hope and heartbreak. This mix somehow tries to capture that. 

I would like to say a big thank you to all the people that shared music they found beautiful, quite a few tracks made it into this mix, as always in new contexts, different speeds, pitches and carefully folded with another track. Thank you for listening

In case you wondered, the art is a beautiful woodcut by Ukrainian-American artist Jacques Hnizdovsky (https://hnizdovsky.gallery). Hnizdovsky fled Ukraine in 1929 as a fourteen-year-old and spent most of his life in the US, becoming known for his woodcuts which often depicted flora and fauna, inspired by hours spent watching the animals at the Bronx zoo and Botanical Garden.

One Thousand and One Nights @ Borderland 2022

Burning Man. A week-long ceremony that challenges you on every level. A practice in remaining present and not chasing experiences: let the energy swirl around you and no matter where you end up, it's going to be fantastic. 

This set is an example of being in that flow ... 

It was Friday night, during the most severe white-out of the week. It was a struggle for us to even bike to Camp Kiss. But we arrived and I wasn't even supposed to play that night, but I had had a premonition. 

First act ended and my homie David Block / Human Experience was supposed to go on and he was MIA. It was primetime, hundreds of ppl there, lasers going, vibe on point, best party on Playa .. and my friend Seth who helps runs the camp looks at me frantically and goes "You got your USB?" and I smile and he says "Let's Fucking Go!" 

First USB didn't work, but the backup did. Then the 'play' button on the left deck wasn't functional so had to work around that too, playa alkaline dust destroys ... 
but the moment was too aligned to let technicalities get in the way. 

And so I dropped this set on everyone , and it was utter mayhem. The dancing was primal, the energy palpable, the smiles contagious, the love beaming. David finally arrived and he followed for another glorious set and the two of us back to back was a moment in time no one who was there will ever forget. Peak Burning Man experience for a lot of us. Wow. 

I was honored to be ready for that moment, and to channel this music through me and into all of you.

Burning Man | Camp KISS | 2022

This is a mix of many of my favorite Afro Downtempo tracks, including several of my unreleased edits as well as some classics that I have been playing over the last 2-3 years. 

African music holds a special place in my heart. Whether it be Morocco, Mali, Angola, something inside be resonates with the frequency of rhythms and melodies, and most of all the voices. Without the need to understand what is being said I feel the spirit of so many of these artists in me. 

This mix is a journey through the deserts, jungles, and villages of Africa, featuring remixes and edits of many amazing classic artists such as, Rokia Traoré, Oumou Sangaré, Ali Farka Touré, Fatoumata Diawara, Sonah Jobartah and more. 

Most of popular music in North & South America as well as Europe can have its roots traced back to Africa. The vibrant and diverse cultures of mama Africa have spread around the world influencing cultures in many ways. 

Please take the time to listen to the original albums and music of these artists, they are a great inspiration to me and musicians all around the world.

The word nagual (nahual) is derived from the ‘Nahuatl language. The common Mesoamerican definition was one who had the ability to transform themselves into an animal. They also had the power to harm or heal depending on their disposition. The nagual is a personal guardian spirit believed by some Mesoamerican Indians to reside in an animal, such as a deer, jaguar, or bird. 

The nahual acts a conduit between the spirit and the world – channeling peace, harmony and knowledge to his/her companions.
