Being a classical violinist proves a great musical background, letting Álvaro know how to work his performances by including melodic elements on his tracks and Dj sets. The link between electronic and classical is clear and we support this creative and beautiful combination.

Álvaro is pretty active in the scene, being co-manager of @casettarecords and delivering fantastic collaborations for @drosssel and @lump-rec.

For this edition of "ecos del más allá", he's setting aside the ethnic atmospheres and going into deeper places with fantastic violin improvisations.

The Aztecs had a very different way of seeing the world, and numbers to them had a very deep magical dimension. This was especially true in relation to their Tonalpohualli, or divinatory calendar. This calendar, which was literally a “count of the days”, ran parallel alongside another “official” calendar, called the Xiuhpohualli, which served to mark the civic festivities, but, unlike the latter, the Tonalpohualli had a very peculiar divinatory quality: its different combinations revealed the character traits and most probable fate which would befall each and every person. Therefore, knowing the particular day sign on which one was born, and its protective deities, was crucial to any Aztec individual.

There are many legends of the origin of the Zapotec. One of them is that they were the original people of the valley of Oaxaca and were born from rocks, or descended from big cats such as pumas, jaguars and ocelots. Another is that the Zapotec settled in the Oaxaca valley after founding the Toltec empire, and were descendants of the people of Chicomoztoc (mythical origin place). 

According to Zapotec legends, their ancestors emerged from the earth, from caves, or turned into people from trees or jaguars. Their governing elite believed that they descended from supernatural beings that lived among the clouds, and that upon death they would return to the clouds. The name by which Zapotecs are known today results from this belief. The Zapotecs of the Central Valleys call themselves "Be'ena' Za'a" - The Cloud People.
