HANNAH WANTS // ROOTS 2 // JUNE 2016

I’ve been meaning to make Roots 2 for a longggggg time but as these mp3's are from multiple old hard drives and often vinyl rips these trip down memory lane mixes literally take me hours and hours (and hours!) to make and whilst they're so special to me and very much worth making, finding the time isn't easy. Roots 1 was uploaded in June 2014, two years ago to the month which is kinda mad! 

I started the ROOTS mixtape series because I wanted to showcase some of my favourites tracks from when I first began DJ’ing way back in 2002! I wanted to be able to show people where my love for music started and where for me, it all began.

You may or may not know that when I first started buying vinyl’s and learning to DJ I fell in love with UKG, 4x4, Speed Garage, Bassline House and Funky House - a music genre/scene that dominated Birmingham (my hometown) at the time.

I started out with some not-so-tight Numark belt drive decks and slowly began teaching myself the art of DJ’ing. When I say slowly, I mean slowly... For a short time I wasn’t even aware that I had to adjust tempo’s to mix a track and it’s safe to say my first couple of weeks practising didn’t sound too great! Fast forward more than a decade, I’m now living my dream as a DJ!

I had SO much fun making this mix. I've been raving on planes, in cars and in the studio and it's been a pleasant surprise to realise that I sometimes drop a few tracks in my set today that I played allllllll those years ago!
