As of last week, I had never seen any movies in the Fast & Furious franchise. I probably missed the first one in 2001 because I was planning my wedding or something else equally pedestrian. Then, before I knew it, there were seven more, and I had no chance of catching up.


But now the franchise has lasted longer than any of our president's marriages and has just birthed its first spin-off feature. So I have taken it upon myself to shotgun all eight movies in four days and report back to you what they have taught me about cars.


In order to truly understand their relationship, I've ordered the movies below by following the series' internal chronology. Yes, this differs from the release dates. Just because these movies go real fast doesn't mean they always move in a straight line.


No, yelling at the car doesn't make it go faster. That would be ludicrous. (Though that would be fitting, since Ludacris co-stars.) I mean yelling while you're driving. Despite being in different cars and often miles apart, Walker and Tyrese can't stop shouting smack at each other. It's wonderful.


Maybe my brain was turning to car-crash mush by this point in the marathon, but Fast Five left me dizzy in the backseat with its bonkers plot. Vin Diesel has collected enough sidekicks to fill an NBA starting lineup. The movie has as many plot points as The Dark Knight or Heat, and it has more heists than those movies combined (I know comparing Fast Five to Heat is unfair because comparing anything to Heat is unfair). Also, I think someone gets pregnant, but I can't be sure.


Maybe decrying a movie with "fast" in the title for being too fast makes me a philistine. Sue me. At least Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson finally makes his F&F franchise debut. I remember that part. I like The Rock.

Hulubalang Raja
 menurut Ajip Rosidi dan H.B. Jassin merupakan novel terpenting Nur Sutan Iskandar. Novel ini juga merupakan novel pertama Indonesia yang beralur ganda.[1]


Ketika Ambun Suri, putri Raja Di Hulu sudah dewasa, diundanglah para bangsawan di sekitar Kampung Hulu Inderapura untuk mengadu peruntungan menjadi suaminya. Hampir saja tidak ada yang beruntung, kecuali Sultan Muhammad Syah dari Kota Hilir Inderapura. Ambun Suri menerimanya bukan karena tertarik, tapi karena Sultan Muhammad Syah merupakan raja yang lebih berkuasa daripada Raja Di Hulu, dan dia ingin berbakti kepada orang tuanya.


Sutan Ali Akbar yang bergelar Raja Adil, kakak Ambun Suri marah ketika dia mengetahui kematian adiknya adalah ulah istri Muhammad Syah. Perang pun pecah antara kedua raja tersebut. Muhammad Syah kemudian meminta bantuan kompeni, yang menambah kegeraman Raja Adil.


Pada saat itu kompeni tidak hanya bermusuhan dengan raja-raja setempat, tetapi juga dengan Aceh yang masih berkuasa di daerah utara pesisir Minangkabau. Sutan Malakewi, yang kemudian diberi gelar Hulubalang Raja, tidak menolak untuk menumpas musuh-musuh kompeni. Dia berhasil menghancurkan musuh-musuhnya, kecuali Raja Adil yang gigih bertahan.


Artikel ini merupakan sebuah kajian poskolonial yang mendeskripsikan resistensi di dalam novel Hulubalang Raja karya Nur Sutan Iskandar. Artikel ini menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif dan dekonstruksi. Artikel ini menggunakan pendekatan unsur intrinsik. Penelitian ini berfokus pada perlawanan dan mimikri yang terjadi di dalam novel Hulubalang Raja. Untuk menggambarkan perlawanan dan mimikri tersebut, perilaku orientalisme dalam novel ini dianalisis. Hasil penelitian ini adalah sebagai berikut. Pertama, di dalam novel Hulubalang Raja, perilaku orientalisme merupakan dikotomi yang dikonstruksi oleh Belanda. Hal ini dilakukan agar Belanda dapat mengeksploitasi masyarakat Minangkabau dan memengeruhi perilaku orientalisme juga dilakukan oleh anak negeri. Kedua, resistensi yang terjadi di dalam novel Hulubalang Raja adalah perlawanan tokoh Raja Adil atas represi dari pihak yang berserikat dengan kompeni. Di dalam kajian poskolonial, hal itu disebut reristensi radikal. Ketiga, mimikri yang dilakukan oleh tokoh Hulubalang Raja dan berada di pihak yang berserikat dengan kompeni merupakan mimikri untuk mempertahankan eksistensi diri. Di dalam kajian poskolonial, hal itu disebut resistensi pasif.

A picture is worth a thousand words
" is an adage in multiple languages meaning that complex and sometimes multiple ideas[1] can be conveyed by a single still image, which conveys its meaning or essence more effectively than a mere verbal description.


In March 1911, the Syracuse Advertising Men's Club held a banquet to discuss journalism and publicity. This was reported in two articles. In an article in The Post-Standard covering this event, the author quoted Arthur Brisbane (not Tess Flanders as previously reported here and elsewhere) as saying: "Use a picture. It's worth a thousand words."[2] In an article in the Printers' Ink, the same quote is attributed to Brisbane[3]


Despite this modern origin of the popular phrase, the sentiment has been expressed by earlier writers. For example, Leonardo da Vinci wrote that a poet would be "overcome by sleep and hunger before [being able to] describe with words what a painter is able to [depict] in an instant."[10] The Russian writer Ivan Turgenev wrote in 1861, "The drawing shows me at one glance what might be spread over ten pages in a book."[11] The quote is sometimes attributed to Napoleon Bonaparte, who said "A good sketch is better than a long speech" (French: Un bon croquis vaut mieux qu'un long discours
). This is sometimes translated today as "A picture is worth a thousand words."


Although Dr. James McQuivey of Forrester Research is a very reliable source, in this case his statement has little relevance, at least from a scientific point of view.
