"Burial Celestial" is a spoken song inspired by the conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn, and by the lifecycle of the luna moth. Pia’s lovely recitation of a Lost in a State poem combines with Signal Box’s gorgeously fuzzed-out guitar. The end effect is an ethereal dreamscape that celebrates the foreverness of natural splendors, both vast and tiny.

One voice, one instrument and one poem from Paul Rowland’s collection, "A Different Way". That’s the concept behind each track on this EP from Low-Velocity Society. The poems are inspired by and based on Ursula K. Le Guin's translation of the "Tao Te Ching", with its emphasis on letting go and going with the flow. Add up all eight of these collaborations between musicians and readers and you have a treasure of brilliant musicianship and wordsmithing, shining with carefully constructed vulnerability.

“On the Inside” was originally used by a butoh dancer to close out a mixed-media show in Tokyo in April, 2024. Signal Box then shared the track with Songs of the Sea, who reimagined it, adding beats, instruments, and imaginative sound design. Have fun listening to the simplicity of the guitar/voice original, followed by the experimental and musically adventurous remix. If it makes you think of another band, yes, it is an homage to Disco Inferno!

Signal Box embraces a newly acquired pedal on his new single. The resulting sonic palette gives the track a fresh angle, while still retaining his trademark sound. “Leaning Towards” is inspired by a painting by Ilona Birrer, entitled “becoming”. The blue hue matches the mood of the track, and the shapes and space created by the watercolour sit well with the closing melody, as the overdrive and fuzz tones fade and are replaced by a warm bass tone. This joint effort between the two artists will be showcased in a Tokyo art exhibition called “audio visual / visual audio”. It marks the third collaboration between Signal Box and Birrer.

"Mallet Meditations" and "Translucent Touch" are twin tracks, both based on a guitar track by Signal Box but taken in kindred directions by two different artists.

"Mallet Meditations"
The guitar by Signal Box is a steady river that grows and widens, the melody by Heath carving out the landscape through which the river passes. Some parts of the melody float on top while others are more submerged. Chimes hover, dart, and play, and elements mix and sometimes reverse, creating a feeling of stasis and flow in both directions of time. 

"Translucent Touch"
The guitar by Signal Box evokes summer and the mayfly, a little creature with no functional mouthpart which usually dies very soon after its mating flight. Just like the mayfly, this track’s melody (created on a toy piano by chichi) is ephemeral, delicate and beautiful. This piece has plenty of surprises as it slowly builds to a cinematic close.
