For No.70 we turn to Amsterdam-based DJ/producer Keith Carnal. With various EP's released on the ARTS collective label, he quickly gained momentum, playing for various festival and Awakenings together with Shlømo during ADE. Now, he focussed his attention to his own label Second Degree (SEC ND°), where he released his first album that's showing his passion for music outside of the 4x4 techno box. In the Netherlands, it's the king birthday, and he's celebrating it was 90 minutes of full-throttle groove.

This year celebrates Keith's 10 year of touring as a DJ. In that light, he made a special mix with tracks he often played during the '10s of this century. Just a quick trip down memory lane and a hommage to the many great tracks that were produced in the previous decade! Seeing the scene is moving towards that groovy, more deep sound, this set gives you an insight of how it all started for him. If you don't know Keith yet: Amsterdam based Keith Carnal has in recent years become seen as somewhat of a tastemaker in today’s world of techno. It might not then come as a big surprise to you that he has also become a favoured producer among many who are seen as “techno mainstay”, gaining support from numerous of his own musical inspirations and champions. Carnal, who grew up in a very musical home in the northern part of Holland, found techno at an early age when he began sourcing and selecting on his own. Techno was, and very much is, the first music that made a deep impression on Keith. This feeling only went on to become more cemented after a few years of composing on his own. It simply became clearer and clearer that Carnal is exactly where he belongs.

Scottish duo Slam, Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle, are a tour de force on the global techno circuit. Their unique, six deck, back-to-back DJ performances have seen the duo play leading clubs and festivals across the world. They are renowned for both their experience and their powerful, contemporary sound. Listen to Soma Records' head honchos signature high energy and peak-time mix for this week's Global Vibe Radio. 

The last few years have seen some of Slam's most prolific studio output as they continue to innovate and keep things moving forward, most recently with the Louder Than Chaos project. The project kicked off with Vol. 1 featuring collaborations with 999999999, Hector Oaks and Keith Tucker (AKA Optic Nerve). Vol. 2 features collaborations with UK techno legend Perc, and Vol. 3 features long term Soma affiliate Rebekah. Vol. 4 with Belgium’s finest export Amelie Lens. Vol. 5 concluded Lounder Than Chaos, featuring the enigmatic Mancunian AnD. Each EP features specially commissioned artwork from German based artist PPP Panic, which consolidates into one constructive piece over the five releases.  

Besides heading Soma Records and spearheading projects, McMillan and Meikle are co-directors and co-curators of Glasgow's Riverside Festival. The festival showcases the best emerging local talent alongside some of the most established names in international techno. Scotland's premier electronic music festival returns on the Jubilee Bank Holiday Weekend, June 2 to June 4. The party will take place at the iconic Zaha Hadid-designed Riverside Museum on Glasgow’s Clydeside. This summer the legendary Slam Tent in Edinburgh also returns after a six year hiatus as Slam Events and Edinburgh promoters FLY join forces.
