Athenian producer Aggelos Baltas, also known as Anatolian Weapons, unveils the ‘Earth’ LP. The album fuses polyrhythmic percussion with tones of his native folk music, welded seamlessly together with a distinct Krautrock attitude. ‘Earth’ takes us on a mystical journey through the northern Greek highlands, backed by Baltas' unique machine-assisted folk, infused with hypnotic drones and exuding an aura that is both futuristic and evocative. 

Anatolian Weapons now continues his explorations in boundary-pushing electronic music with the ‘Earth’ album, a true reckoning with ancient musical traditions given a modern facelift. The eight tracks reconstruct a sonic narrative of tradition enhanced with psychedelic and space-rock elements marked by tribal rhythm and pure hypnotism. 

Active in the scene for more than 20 years, Baltas has been praised locally and internationally for his bold blend of different styles and influences, seen not only in his Anatolian Weapons project but also in his work as Dream Weapons and Fantastikoi Hxoi. His releases have been put out by renowned labels such as Beats In Space, and Emotional Response, now, he returns to the Swiss Subjects To Restrictions Discs after remixing their recent release by Anna vs June.

Eight fast/slow propelling tracks. Adventurous, full of grandeur, gratifying the dance floor while equally winning the relaxation zones. Pure emotions crafted by newcomers. There is Milan’s Tagliabue, trancing slow and insightful. Or Cologne’s Grischerr, eloquently Tolouse-Low-Traxing. Some go down the slow burning road, where rhythms hang low, and suspense is in full show. Like London’s Frank Rodas, Garnu Depot from Iran, or Xei Ju from the islands of Micronesia, striking all ears with ghostly transcendental percussive science. An autumnally global voyage, which likewise offers industrialized districts by Italian producer Federico Cassetta, Metropolis minimal wave pop by Japanese musician Saeko Killy, or odd swamp funk by Chilean/German duo 7697 Miles. They all show, how far you can go, without losing your distinct flow.

Up the mountains, deep in the forest, I found these plants that live on sound and water. They don’t need light and therefore are unlike any other plants on this planet. Their peek of activity is during the night, when they are covered with a thin, black layer of nocturnal light. Night lies on these plants like a thin membrane. Their roots absorb drops, waves of sound and its vibrational intonation. When humans eat this plant they fall asleep and start dreaming instantly. In this dream they become these plants, who are unnamed, and are able to feel the pulsation of their — now own — roots. Many years ago, when language was more sounds thancodes, these plants were everywhere to be found in the planetary landscape. Nobody knows yet why these plants are only to be found in the high mountain in its deep forest. It is said that once you enter this forest it will not be easy to find your way out. Like in a dream, you need to be guided by a strong wave of consciousness to find your way out and back to the ground.

Flower Storm returns with a second chapter of mythical club mutations delivering five aural incantations forged and fortified in the flames of fabled rites of past times and nu-club sorcery. 

The brainchild of Sepehr and Kasra V, Flower Storm, was born as a multi-disciplinary project stemming from the desire for club culture to coexist with the deep roots of their motherland and nationalities. It’s a simultaneous deep dive into the history of their ancestors as well as a nod to underground electronic soundscapes. 

They released their debut EP, Yek (meaning “one” in Farsi) back in May 2023 and already have an entire library of sounds for a plethora of releases and live performances mixing traditional instruments such as the Daf, Tonbak and Santoor with sampled vocals and dialogues from films as well as various styles of electronic music. 

Do EP (Do meaning “two” in Farsi) takes their sonics a bit further into the psychedelic realm with the continued use of ethereal vocal samples alongside a profusion of genres. The A1 “The first trial” is a reimagined take on Coil’s “Further Back and Faster,” paying homage through a smouldering Iranian lens along with low riding tornado tracks and ecstatic percussive squalls. Flower Storm’s sophomore release heeds the call to the wind.

No stranger to the label having assumed mastering duties across several releases, Behrang Mohammadi touches down for his official Warning debut. It’s a deadly one-two punch as the Inkonst resident conjures DIY spirits on a typically idiosyncratic lathe cut 12", complete with a remix from OG Salon Des Amateurs resident Philipp Otterbach.

Original cut ‘Tears Only Fall From The Right Eye’ recalls Dutch darkwave innovator Das Ding at his strangest. Eerie retro-futurism awash in a sea of spatially-aware dub FX, Mohammadi summons his more explorative side with some hauntingly sparse, smudged. electro.

But where the original deployed dub sirens and swathes of reverb to mesmeric effect, Otterbach leans fully into his dubbiest inclinations. It’s the axis point where break-neck IDM pointillism, industrial heft and pure dread bassweight collide. Bone-rattling stuff.

Terra Magica Rec. is firmly based in Munich and founded by Tom Sprenger and Mirko Hecktor. The spirit of Terra Magica Rec. is to share underground music from heavy, slow and trippy to rough, distinct catchy dance floor oriented rhythms. The label bosses Tom and Mirko operate under their moniker Hektisch Sprengen DJs (In German language the term Hektisch Sprengen basically means blowing up things in a hectic manner). In contrast to this moniker prepare for quite the contrary sound vise: Shimmering synths between mysterious dubiously sounds, dark and slow breakbeat cuts, floaty atmospheric IDM breakdowns and uptempo acid and trance landscapes. In addition to their own solo projects the focus of the label lies on releasing solo projects and various artist compilations drawing from a pool of talented individuals hailing from corners of the globe.
