Hestia ist die Göttin des Familien- und Staatsherdes, des Herd- und Opferfeuers.
Als Poseidon und Apollon um sie warben, schwor sie beim Haupt des Zeus, ewig Jungfrau zu bleiben. Zeus gewährte ihr auf diesen Wunsch hin immerwährende Jungfräulichkeit und wies ihr einen ehrenvollen Platz als Hüterin und Opferempfängerin „mitten im Haus“ an.

Hades, der „Herr des Totenreiches“. Der strenge, unerbittliche, den Göttern und Menschen verhasste Gott. Aus seinem schaurigem, ödem Reich gibt es keine Rückkehr. Auch Bitten und Schmeicheln erweicht in nicht; nur Orpheus gelingt es durch die Macht des Gesanges, ihn zur Rückgabe der Eurydike zu bewegen.

Poseidon (griechisch Ποσειδῶν) ist in der griechischen Mythologie der Gott des Meeres und Bruder des Zeus. Das Pferd ist ihm heilig, weshalb Hippios (lateinisch Hippius) einer seiner Beinamen ist.

pt 4: Poseidon

Hades entführt Persephone in die Unterwelt. Demeter verbot nach langer Suche den Pflanzen zu wachsen, den Bäumen, Früchte zu tragen, und den Tieren, sich zu vermehren. Als die Menschen anfingen zu sterben, zwangen die anderen Götter des Olymps Hades, Persephone freizulassen. Demeter ließ aus Freude und Dankbarkeit die Erde wieder fruchtbar werden. Einen Teil jedes Jahres kann Persephone mit ihrer Mutter auf der Erde verbringen, in der restlichen Zeit muss sie in der Unterwelt als Königin über die Toten herrschen.
