So yeah the task was:
Create a 1 minute piece of music using a mode (besides Ionian) After much debating and "trying to make something good", all I was getting was my usual slow, minor toned mehh. Felt like a Change, Some up beat funky jam in Mixolydian mode (G being the root and F being natural rather then sharp which of course would make it G major) . Listen, Love, Comment. 10 points to me for trying something new =)

The task set for this one piece was to compose a two minute piano piece in the style of a famous 20th century composer (Had to be one covered in a lecture series) I chose Igor Stravinsky as I found many of his techniques effective, and could see my self using one or two of them quite often. The Techniques I used are:
Polytonality
Octotonic Scale
Pantonality
Block Chords
Unrelated segments/paste technique. 
I very much enjoyed composing this piece as I knew it would be performed by a pianist far greater then I could ever dream of so i was aloud to go ape shit with Stravinsky based techniques. I THINK!! not sure as I've not worked it out yet BUT! I think I may have accidentally used Golden Ratio as  well. One can hope.

Philip Mead Coursework

Grade: 68% - 2:1...... Sadly I drummed to loud in the performance >.<

So this piece is called Tulung which is Javanese for "help", it seemed fitting. In the first practice of it it was titled "C'mon Son" as a joke. Despite the horrible sounding MIDI logic provided for me, I feel you do get the idea of the piece. It is apparently very true to traditional Javanese Gamelan (According to Mr. Dave Smith himself)which of course was flattering =) 
This is just a MIDI version I will state again but if I'm able to get a recording of it using the actual Gamelan instruments and our second year orchestra performing it, I shall. Enjoy

First time making electronic music, decided to make some basic Dubstep type thingy. 
Task was to make a 3 minute piece of music in Reason. Had to use 1 instance of every instrument and sampler. Wasn't allowed to use any 3rd party sounds or samples (so everything you hear I made with reasons sound bank. Couldn't use any external processing that wasn't built into the instrument such as reverbs, compressors or EQ so really had to use my brain to find was around that with patching (what an excellent idea to learn how to use what you've got). I could use any amount of Mixers I wanted but I only used one and the EQ built in to that...which has no mids =( I had so much fun making this and learning as I was doing and can safely say that Reason is better then Logic for this kind of music hands down....And I love my Logic >.< enjoy, be nice, it's my first attempt at anything like this... I hope i get a good grade =)

So I bought a few of Spitfires Creative Labsalnd decided to compose a simple piece just to try a few out. I'm a little bit in love with this Soft Piano and the Scary Strings are out of this world. It's a quick through together.

Walking In The Rain

The day I bought Albion I had an hour spare to make something before going out. I wanted to play with every instrument it offered so I used the old 'pick three notes, make a rhythm then arrange it' and then dabbled. I watched Game of Thrones the night before also so it might have been a little influenced by that. Its a bit OTT and repetitive but  I had an hour to play with my new toy. Give me a break.

So it got a distinction at college so I figured id share it with you, hope you enjoy it, Piano and drum sections was played by myself and of course the other instruments were MIDI and I've never played a sitar, cello or violin in my life. The Glockenspiel would have been easy to play but seeing as I don't own one. . MIDI worked well enough =)

Give into me - Michael Jackson (Arrangement)

Another re-arrangement I created for college, also got a distinction so decided to share it. Like before the Piano part was played by myself and the rest was MIDI.  In this piece the flute sounds like it distorts BUT! in the mix and the master I promise you it didn't, I've no idea why it sounds this way =( It's on a college computer and as I've now finished I have no way of correcting it so deal with it. Also, the strings near the end sound somewhat out of time BUT! they are not, just every note is a crescendo so anyone who thinks they're clever there by pointing it out. . I'll send you the score ;)

How to save a Life - The Fray (Arrangement)

Earlier this week I heard the news that a friend of mine lost her life to cancer after dealing with it for the entirety of her adult life. She'd had it a number of times, underwent treatment, into remission and it kept coming back and eventually there was nothing more the doctors could do. Through the entire 3 years I knew her she never once moaned about what a bad hand she'd been dealt at life, she was just grateful for the time she had and surrounded her self with people that made her happy. Her quick wit, infectious laugh and her pure blunt honesty were just a few things I'll remember. Long talks about The Walking Dead and hilarious nights out. The time you got so drunk you fell and grazed up your knee and required a piggy back from the venue to the bus then bus to your house(Yes I remember). It took her a couple of days to look me in the face after that night, her words "I felt like a right tit"

I'm not really an emotional person, I accept things as they come, but hearing the news left me speechless. I knew it was going to happen after being told there was nothing more they could do but I never thought it'd be so soon, it left me speechless. So I did what I do when I don't know what else to do, I wrote some music. I dunno if you'd like it, I doubt it to be honest, it's not the 1975 or 21 Pilots but its my means of saying goodbye, hence the title. Slán a chara is Gaelic for 'Goodbye my friend'. That is the soul purpose of this piece.

I'm a graduate in Music Composition and Technology BSc(Hons) at the University of Hertfordshire. I do not pretend to be anything better then a learner of music and I believe I always will be as there is always an area or genre of music that you're unaware of and can go away and learn about. I enjoy playing instruments as much as I do writing for them. I enjoy to re-arrange other composers works and/or orchestrate them and I enjoy taking ideas from other composers and putting them into practice in my own works (Not plagiarize, Just take methods of composing into account). 

My personal compositional motto is 'keep it simple and trust your ears'. I like to build on simple ostinato  patterns and use binary and ternary forms regularly.
 
Besides waffling on like a loser, that's about all I have to say. Hope you enjoy at least one of my sounds.
