Perc is a titan of British techno: one whose throbbing sound channels generational fury into hammering beats designed to make you sweat. His cathartic strain of purist techno even tackles the odd polemic once in a while, with holistically named tracks, artwork and sampling that puts a social spin on his output. Cut from this cloth, Perc delivers a percussive mantra for Bassiani Podcast 118: harsh, unapologetic techno with a soul.

Imagine growing up near Berlin, getting into dance music, going to Berghain for the first time and getting your mind blown by techno. Then, ten years later, you become a resident DJ at the fabled club. Not many people—any people?—can claim this story, but for Fadi Mohem, what would be so many DJs' dreams became a reality. After getting his 2017 debut 12-inch Reckless in the hands of all the right people in Berlin, Mohem established a bold, bouncy techno sound with releases on Modeselektor's Seilscheibenpfeiler, Ben Klock's Klockworks and FJAAK's SPANDAU20, pretty much the cream of the crop of modern techno.

Now, this year, he's becoming one of Berghain's newest residents, alongside other exciting names like Sedef Adasï and Naty Seres (and Lakuti upstairs at Panorama Bar). As heard on his recent collaborative with Ben Klock, Mohem has modern techno down to a science, thanks to a combination of reverence for the old-school and clever rhythmic touches, like the irresistible snare pattern on "Prefix." His RA Podcast sounds like what you might expect from a new generation of Berghain resident: aerodynamic, heavy and, honestly a little midtempo compared to a lot of other young techno DJs. It's the sound the club has made world-famous, with cuts from Reeko, Heiko Laux and Truncate, plus some special moments from aya, DJ Deeon and Petar Dundov. It takes a certain kind of DJ to get to this hallowed place, and Fadi Mohem deserves it.

Next up is a very special mix from Guy Blanken’s darker techno alias, Talismann. As the son of clubber parents, he’s been working hard to honour his creative legacy under a triad of disparate pseudonyms. Makam, Slagmann, Talismann: the latter manifestation a ferocious take on his house-centred persona, under the cover of which he calls De School and Dekmantel home and explores the more uncompromising side of his nature. For anyone curious, the 29th July sees his latest work (Percussion Part 3) immortalised in wax and released via his self-titled imprint. In the meantime though, this Podcast instalment should sate that curiosity with a preview of some of his latest tracks. Bassiani Podcast 132 is packed with menacing sounds and hyperactive drum arrangements; thunderous, intensifying, peak-time beats for the most vehement techno heads.

Codex Empire - has been creating challenging experimental
electronic music for over 25 years working as one half of industrial/ experimental band Konstruktivists as well as a number of varied solo and side-projects. Manni Dee’s techno smells something like burning rubber. Since 2013's ‘Pareidolia' EP, the London-based producer and DJ has been turning out breakneck warehouse fillers with an ear for the unsettled. He has become a repeat offender on Ali Wells fronted Perc Trax, and has seen his debut album released on the esteemed and immovable Tresor Records. Manni has also seen releases on imprints such as South London Analogue Material and Leyla, and flexed remix muscle for the likes of Daniel Avery, Louisahhh and The Horrors. As a DJ, he has performed acclaimed and dynamic sets at some of the world’s premier techno haunts, from London to L.A, Berlin to Bogota.
