Welcome to Teryia! Acoustic Reggae, folk, African ballads, Spanish, Pacific Ocean, French, English band.

This band was born from the meeting between two musicians, Mata Poze songwriter and Ada Diarra author, songwriter, director from Ivory Cost. Mata had to leave Guadeloupe in the Caribbean alternative 21 years. There, he embodied the ideas advocated in his music while working in the humanitarian and social issues.

In January 2012, three days after his arrival in Strasbourg Eastern of France, he met Ada Diarra on the terrace of a cafe. This was the birth of a great and strong friendship between the two artists.

In May 2012, Teryia occurred at Cabaret Kemet studio Saglio and Europe - Africa festival. Finally ensued a series of concerts in Strasbourg known cabarets as Artichoke , TNS or attending a mass intercultural meeting in Theatre du Maillon which earned them a small article in the newspaper "les dernières Nouvelles d'Alsace".

With their experience, their music mixed and communicative power enabled them to reach a wide audience in a short time.

Since, after a tour in the South West of France in 2014 and a concert in Paris, Mata Pöze adopted a new turn, singing most often alone or occasionnally accompnied by other musicians.
This vibrates in harmony with the rhythms of reggae or chant from the farthest reaches of the South Pacific Ocean.

Languages sung in this group are many and are all vehicles offering a journey within your emotions and your thoughts and so many weapons against discrimination and racism. Mata Pöze and his new trio had the opportunity to play as the first part of Alpha Blondy in 2018 at the Festilac of Saulxures.

We'll cross Africa from east to west with Swahili and Malinke. We shall stop in France, Spain, Latin America, the United States and Jamaica. The journey continues touching the borders of humanity with Lifou, Kanak language one of the oldest living civilasation today in which Mata has lived partly which shaped his personality and inspired his music.

The themes are powerful ones
unifying engaged. Everything is portrayed, forced marriage of women in West Africa,colonialism and neo colonialism. Love, friendship, death, disease, the mix of cultures within the couple, friendship among peoples are all issues that this band touches with sensitivity, strength and energy. 

The powerful voice of  Mata  is the pendant with the sweet warm and sensitive of the ballads sung. 

The contrast is striking between the poignant melodies of ballads written in French, English or Spanish and catchy reggae  rhythms taking you to the party.

The excitement is at its height when spirituals as powerful as "We Shall Overcome" are sung in connection with playful reggae as "Shining Words" .

The term "Teryia" in Malinke means "friendship" . This is a strong link between people, strong bond that unites this artist to his audience. He does not hesitate to make his dreams a musical reality: gathering people and cultures through music.
