Stockhaussen - Ciudad Violenta

Drawing inspiration from the 80's subculture, the moody allure of the Neue Deutsche Welle, the seminal post-punk sounds of Britain, decadentist literature and experimental electronics, among others, Contes Cruels crafts their sound, characterized by minimalist compositions, vintage gear and evocative, cold lyrics. 

Venturing into the realms of hauntology, exploring the pervasive sense in which contemporary culture is haunted by the "lost futures" of modernity—those futures that never materialized or were eclipsed by the tides of postmodernity—the duo embodies this spectral presence in their debut EP, Séance.

"Tesco are proud to bring together two of Australia’s hardest industrial acts for the first time. For over 15 years Ebola Disco have remained the country’s most belligerent and uncompromising live PE act, with studio recordings few and far between. Flies for Friends is their undisputed studio masterpiece. Spanning 17 minutes and made entirely from EMS Synthi AKS violence (Ben Taylor) and spiteful vocals (Matt Casey), it’s held a legendary status in Australia’s underground while never seeing an official release.
 
Backing it up are two tracks from Rope Society, following the project’s 2013 debut release on Cipher Productions. Crude synth exploration, ugly vocals and junk metal abuse, these are a far cry from David Tonkin’s alternate incarnation as Isomer.
 
Limited to 300 numbered copies.”

For over two years, Post-industrial auteurs Kim Larsen and Clay Ruby have been chipping away at this split release, sculpting something truly confounding and unique. While either side of this split sounds almost nothing like the other, where both projects connect is in their ability to combine seemingly incongruous musical elements together seamlessly. Combinations of space and tension, sorrow and frenzy, loss and abundance, all exist within the same short spans of time. Not only are they highly dynamic in terms of mood but also in style, where ingredients from various types of Folk music, Death Industrial, Funeral Doom, Kosmische Musik, Electroacoustic composition and further mutations all clash together in a way that could only make sense on this album. The freedom with which Larsen and Ruby approach their compositions is unparalleled, and yet this music is not just a progressive stew of paradoxes. Rather is it distilled down into a refined, romantic and highly personal consonance.
