Plaster and Rivet join forces to offer the first track of Uncanny Valleys (Vol.III)

“Uncanny Valleys” compilation series is related to the theory introduced by japanese robotitian Mori Masahiro back in 1970, referring to the paradoxical perception of the existing similarities between robots and human beings.

This third opus focuses on Modern sonics, through a variety of genres and interpretations of these aesthetics. While the volume opens with a aerial and breaked track, it unfolds with ritual and 'techno' blending, before stepping into deconstructed territories with heavy vocal and digital manipulations. Finally, the final contributions open up sharply designed sounds and noisy atmospheres, which maintain the link within the compilation series.

Taking a look at music that is influenced by a genre - Industrial-, created in the times where the concept of Uncanny Valleys was created, helps us to grasp the links between the theory and art, both inspired by the development of technologies and its influences on both personal and societal aspects.

Premiere: ‘Integration’ is the name of the first EP by Helena Markos, the woman behind the platform and record label Tales of Psychofonia. The album is the outcome of a long process that began at the onset of the 2020 pandemic. It is a four-track EP, including a remix by the Irish artist LAIR.

The EP reflects the integration process of painful parts of the self, the shadows. Its creation became a mental sanctuary and an arena for experimentation and exploration in difficult times when words were not there.

Helena Markos - Integration [Tales of Psychofonia]

The release date of the album commemorating the fifth anniversary of Soil Records is approaching, and from Industrial Complexx we have set out to review the 50 tracks of this quintuple album. In each post we analyse one of the five cds of the album, and this time we talk about the ten tracks that make up the fourth cd.

The cd opens with a track that is difficult to classify, this perception of complexity is better understood when we see that the person who signs Black Band is Martin Steinebach with his project Monoid, and the fact is that the German producer has a career that spans around 30 years at the head of important musical projects, so from Black Band we can expect very diverse influences, from dark rock to post-punk or even spoken word. Taut + Tame joins this album with the primitive techno of Opus Pistorum, this pair, formed by D. Crowhurst and Matt Flag, have a fairly short discographic career. Something similar happens with Disappearer, an artist who contributes with the dark electro of Scomparoso, as it is an American project with a rather limited volume of work, although it is a popular project in this music circuit. Wydma is in the same situation as the two previous projects, as he is a Polish producer with a great activity in terms of events, and with a discography that is reduced to a few releases since last year, however, with SZRRDD he shows a great background and a great control with the bass lines. Canadian artist Inside Blur and Belgian producer Ottoman Grüw team up to present Espace Liminal, a cut with diverse influences such as techno, EBM and industrial.

We don't know the origin of Lvcerate, however we note that Critical Factor has a sound that we could perfectly link with the proto trance of the 90's. Spit Mask is the couple formed by Bryan and Rachel Jackson, a duo with an industrial, extreme and incredible sound, and they prove it with Screaming in the Streets. With Oblivion we don't venture to say who embodies this project or where it comes from, we can only recognise the quality and originality of DriedBlood, a track that sounds like darkwave and in which a great technical and sonic work can be appreciated. The two artists who close this cd don't need too much introduction because their trajectories in the European industrial scene are well known; Katran is the alias of Darko Kolar, founder of Jezgro and one of the members of the Serbian duo Ontal who, with The Night Garden, his contribution to this album, shows his commitment to the forcefulness of industrial techno. Who closes this fourth cd, and whose artistic development is well known, is the Italian Adriano Canzian with I LOVE U, a cut of acid techno with a very suggestive voice.

    Titled after the outbreak of smallpox in the 1970s socialist Yugoslavia, unintentionally brought in by the pilgrims returning from a quest for divine illumination, Variola Vera is the soundtrack to the somatic and the metaphysical epidemics steering the human enterprise towards its termination.

    Adrift in the sea of narcotic synth textures, discordant recitations, contaminated laboratory noises, misshapen fragments of charlatan sermons, cannibal ceremonies, voices of dying children and speeches of the moribund Eastern Blok dictators, Variola Vera navigates its wayward course amidst the bitter nostalgia, ritualistic fervency, lethargic dejection, and frantic anguish.
