In celebration of the centenary of the gothic masterpiece, Rasa Daukus and Will Larsen, as contemporary classical duo Tess Said So, are releasing a new, fully orchestrated version of their award-winning live film score.
 
Reimagined in the unique format of a double concerto for piano, percussion, prepared electronics and symphony orchestra, the complete film-length album includes 27 individual tracks synchronised to 27 chronological film cues.
 
On 15 March 2022, the 100th anniversary of the cinema premiere at Berlin's Primus-Palast, Tess Said So will digitally release the first track, Nosferatu Cue 1: Opening Titles – Nosferatu’s Theme.
 
Over the following 26 weeks, each subsequent track will be released every Friday.
 
The complete album, Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror Reimagined by Tess Said So, will be released on 30 September 2022.

In a lot of ways, Aukai’s self-titled debut is the sound of Markus Sieber bringing his career full circle. Having spent part of the ’90s playing rock music in East Germany, the composer/multi-instrumentalist then shifted his focus to acting, only to have music creep back into his life after a mind-altering move to Mexico.

“This album and project has a lot to do with memories from travel,” explains Sieber, “but also memories from childhood and nature. How did the river smell in summer? I wanted to create a sonic space where music guides the listener into some imaginative inner world.”

Which explains why he came up with the name Aukai in the first place; it’s the Hawaiian word for a seafaring traveler, the sort of person who seeks out the stillness in uncertain waters. In the case of Sieber’s new record, that meant spending a winter holed up in a mountainside cabin around Colorado’s La Plata Canyon. Basic tracks were then cut in a Berlin studio and brought into full relief alongside cellist Anne Muller (Agnes Obel Band, Nils Frahm), violinist Bogdan Djukic, pianist Angelika Baumbach, sound designer Alexander Nickmann, and longtime collaborator Jamshied Sharifi (Laurie Anderson, Sting, Dream Theater).

Tess Said So is the creative partnership between musicians Will Larsen and Rasa Daukus. 

Will is an ARIA award winning percussionist, drummer and composer from Melbourne, Australia. He has worked for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Opera Australia, Orchestra Victoria, The Australian Ballet, and toured throughout Europe and Asia. He has played for José Carreras, Mikis Theodorakis, Bryn Terfel, The Bolshoi Ballet, The Kirov Ballet, The New York Ballet and k d lang. Will has also worked on several movie scores, including “Hero Mars” by Californian director Skyler Cooper, "At World's End" for Danish director Tomas Villum Jensen, and "Mary and Max" by Academy Award winning director Adam Elliot. In 2012, Will won Best Score at the Los Angeles Movie Awards for his music on “Juliana’s Story,” directed by Angelique Papadelias.

Rasa is a pianist and composer from Canberra, Australia, and is the Director of Music at the University of Canberra. Her current research focuses on multimedia applications of classical music in popular culture, drawing on postgraduate work in visual art, design and music technology. As a pianist she has specialised in contemporary classical ensemble repertoire, and credits her main teachers – Larry Sitsky and John Luxton in Australia, and Jeffrey Jacob in the USA – in helping shape her interpretive direction. Rasa has also worked on the Australian development, production and distribution of various strategic and international record labels including RCA/Ariola, Arista and Deconstruction Records while at BMG Music.
