KOVE is the newest discovery by Viper label boss Futurebound, the latest in a long line of talents such as Nero, DC Breaks, ShockOne, Sigma, Metrik, Brookes Brothers, Smooth and Camo & Krooked who also cut their teeth as part of the Viper camp. Originally from Sussex and now living in Oxford (which has always steadily maintained a strong DnB scene), 21 year old KOVE hadn’t listened to DnB until 2010, then like so many others the rush of 170bpm caught his heart on his first proper DnB club experience. Little over 18 months later and KOVE’s debut single is due out on the mighty Viper recordings, and with Bailey and DJ Hype already rinsing out the tracks on radio, it's easy to see why Viper is once again putting its name to another new production talent. 

'BREACH'
One of the most exciting things about KOVE’s debut is the stark difference between the two tracks on offer. While ‘Stellar’ bring the disco madness, ‘Breach’ goes deep and dark whilst still retaining the classic signature melodic style of Viper Recordings. The intro opens with warm washes and metromic clicks and ride cymbal, adding layered mid range and a heavily processed hand clap after 8 bars, filtering until the drop which comes in after a quick fire 32 bar intro (ideal for those quick double drops!). The bass when it hits is a cavernous snaking low end, morphing and winding its way through four bar loops, like a sub heavy brass DnB tuba. This is a bassline to savour; dark, heavy but also cultured in its execution. Alongside this bassline wonder is the perfect juxtaposition of live sounding classic two step drums, the awesome boom click evoking late 90’s tech step at its live break sampling finest.

Kove - Breach

Hamilton’s ‘Soundboy’ was one of the stand out tracks featured on Andy C’s ‘Nightlife 5’ compilation, while the VIP version tore apart clubs from London to Lisbon. Meanwhile last year’s ‘Brainstorm’ / ‘Echoes’ set Hamilton apart as one of the hottest producers the drum & bass scene has to offer. It’s no surprise then that this, his latest single for Ram Records, contains an undeniably epic pair of tracks that are filled with all the hallmarks you’d expect from a producer of Hamilton’s calibre. 

‘Deep In My Heart’ leads the way, infused with twinkling melodies, infectious vocal samples and euphoric build ups that will make you fall in love with Hamilton’s music. Romance will be the last thing on your mind though when the warping bassline sucks you into another world. Before long your body will respond to the rolling beats and your heart will direct your feet straight to the dance floor.

Flip over and ‘Rich Kids’ builds on that formula as Hamilton displays ever-more musicality as building, enveloping leads and clattering breaks are offset with rib-snapping bassline combinations and grinding end-bar edits. This one is not for the faint hearted and sees Hamilton putting his money where his mouth is to deliver an unquestionably storming track that goes straight for the jugular. This one is an instant rewind track!

Kove’s musical history saw him move from Sussex to London to produce for an electro-pop band in 2009. The following year this young producer encountered drum & bass for the first time and since then has never looked back, immersing himself in the scene and concentrating his efforts on writing his own take on the genre.

Those efforts are clearly working as Kove’s musical talent is already picking up steam thanks to a huge remix for LA music legend and ex-M83 guitarist Big Black Delta. And now his debut single for Program will cement his reputation as one to watch even further. Picked up by Andy C and heavily supported in his sets, Kove’s first outing on program is packed with essential drum & bass energy.

‘Iodine’ leads the way with a stunning musical intro that’s filled with dance floor promise. Kove slowly builds the tension with filtered drums and haunting snippets of vocal before a winding, grinding bassline smashes into the mix. This one is sure to set clubs alight whenever it’s dropped, confirming exactly why Program have given Kove their seal of approval.

Next up is ‘Open Ground’ an altogether lighter affair, fans of the deeper sound of drum & bass will love this track. As the name suggests this one is filled with wide open synths and atmospherics all of which culminate in an effortlessly rolling breakbeat and booming sub-bass combination that provides a perfect balance to Kove’s debut single for Program.

Recent signing Metrik crashes onto the Hospital release schedule with this immense self-titled EP. Hot on the heels of his Essential Mix for BBC Radio One, Metrik has forged a reputation for producing top-notch peak time tunes with catchy hooks and uplifting vibes a-plenty.

Kicking off with "Break Of Dawn", Metrik takes no prisoners as the tune drops with vocals from Dynamite MC into a cacophony of souped up synth work with plenty of fun factor. This is an explosive dancefloor banger that is guaranteed to cause a ruckus. Next is "Out Of The Fire" with its undulating melodies and euphoric, rippling synths, which will have hands in the air across the world.

"Distant Shores" is a unique way to round off a solid statement of intent from a young producer, marking his ascension to the prime time.

The "Metrik" EP showcases his musically expansive, techy sound across four incredible tracks, which will impress, move and energize their audience in equal measure.
