Single resonator oscillator playing a single 6 note chord.  It's using a simple saw wave single-cycle waveform sample and s&h LFOs modulating timbre, spread, a tiny bit of q and LFO speeds.  Resonator oscillator output is direct to VCA, so no filtering is being used.  Inbuilt chorus, delay and reverb.

Waldorf Quantum iridium Resonator Ambient Drone - single patch/chord

Single resonator oscillator using simple single-cycle saw and square waveforms which are selected round-robin.  Random per-note spread and timbre. Resonator oscillator output is direct to VCA, so no filtering. Plays through first dry, then again with inbuilt chorus, delay and reverb.

Waldorf Quantum Iridium Resonator Sequence

Single resonator using simple single cycle saw waveform sample. Doesn't sound too impressive, but this isn't using any filtering - this is just a resonator oscillator output direct to VCA.  It uses timbre-mode sin-saw and then random modulation of timbre to effectively use that as a low pass filter.  it has q at zero, but max q curve to give the resonance effect.  Using komplex modulator instead of envelope to give a variable decay curve with a bit of modulation for KM speed to alter the decay time.

Waldorf Quantum Iridium Resonator Bass Sequence

Just a modulated single resonator oscillator - completely dry, direct to VCA with no filter or effects. Waldorf Quantum Iridium Resonator Alien Soundscape dry - single patch/chord

This is all waldorf quantum - it's just a single latched 5 note chord.  It uses one wavetable oscillator of 800 random Adventure Kid waveforms, which are moved through via s&h LFO, and a waveform/VA oscillator sounding a low-pitch sawtooth with s&h to warp.  The levels of the two oscillators are modulated via the same s&h in opposing directions. It uses a single analog filter, swept via slewed s&h.  The LFOs used for wavetable position and oscillator level have their rates modulated via additional s&h LFOs.  Effects are onboard chorus, delay and reverb. (patch ref: one voice ambient 2).

Waldorf Quantum Random Generated Ambient akwf - single patch/chord

Just a modulated single resonator oscillator - direct to VCA with no filter. Waldorf Quantum Iridium Resonator Alien Soundscape FX - single patch/chord

Another latched-chord generative patch.   osc 1 is wavetable using 100 random Adventure Kid waveforms, osc 2 is wavetable using 40 random "classic" waveforms, osc 3 is a 2-octave down sub using 200 random Adventure Kid waveforms.  Independent svf LPF filters and digital former as comb+ filter. Has 29 rows of modulation using 5 synced s&h LFOs, a synced square LFO and a couple of looped free envelopes - all being used in source+controller combinations against wavetable position, filter cutoff, LFO speeds etc. Komplex Modulator is used to provide occassional pitch changes for oscs 1+2.  Effects are "crunch" drive(wavefolding), chorus, delay and reverb.  Bass boost is off. Recorded from Iridium - no additional processing. (patch ref: wt amb kitchen sink).

Waldorf Iridium Quantum generative ambient akwf - single patch/chord

A mixed bag of generative soundscape patch snippets played with just a 2-note latched chord. All are single layer using 3 kernels oscillators, each oscillator comprising 6 operators and 5 macros. Masses of s&h modulation.  Recorded direct from quantum - patches only use digital filters (the first 3 and last one are direct to VCA, so no filters at all) so sounds identical on iridium.

Waldorf Quantum Iridium  Kernels oscillator soundscapes mixed - single patches/chord

Single patch played with simple 3 note latched chord. Patch uses 3 kernels oscillators, each with all six operators/kernels set as sine waves using FM. The bulk of the modulation is from the main mod matrix with various amount/controller combinations of the 6 s&h LFOs sent via the macro knobs to operator level/pitch.  LFO rate is modulated by other LFOs. Komplex modulator brings in occasional pitch bends in oscs 1+3.  All oscillator output is direct to VCA, so all digital with no filters (sounds the same on iridium). Recorded directly from quantum using internal relay+reverb effects. (patch ref: fm genr8 6 3note)

Waldorf Quantum Iridium Generative FM Soundscape 2 - single patch/chord

Bass sequence using randomly modulated resonator oscillator spread and q, with no filtering (osc output is direct to VCA). Also uses 2 sine waveform oscillators to add bottom end - these are just having their level modulated. Only effect is built in chorus. Recorded on iridium - would sound identical in quantum in all digital mode.

2 operators/kernels in a single kernels oscillator doing slight exponential fm as source. Komplex modulator running 15 triangles per cycle at 70Hz, so effectively a 1,050Hz triangle LFO, against pitch and filter cutoff.  Filter is raiser in dirty -24dB mode. Mod wheel increases cutoff+resonance, reduces filter decay and brings a bit of delay and reverb. Only effects are built-in - slight chorus and drive, plus the delay/reverb when brought in with the wheel. Recorded on iridium, so all digital - would sound same on quantum in all-digital mode.

waldorf quantum iridium perturbator style #1

All digital analog-style bass patch.

3 wavetable oscillators using a series of saw waves from raw moog matriarch oscillators (converted using built in "analyze audio" tool).

These go into digital former which is set as a high pass filter, then into the dual parallel filters which are running in digital mode. Both are set to 24dB SVF, filter 1 is set to saturated mode, and filter 2 is set to dirty mode but the level is lower, just to blend in a bit of heavy distortion.

The filter envelope to cutoff amount is controlled by the mod wheel, with the same envelope+wheel source used to raise the cutoff of the high pass filter, dropping some of the bottom end to better emulate the moog ladder filter dropoff.

the Komplex modulator has 2 patterns of 32/31 steps of random values per cycle, blended 50% with full entropy, running at 100Hz, resulting in digital noise. A tiny amount of this is routed to the filter to add a bit more grit.

Lots of small amounts of random modulation to pitch, envelope decay, resonance, wavetable position.

There's a tiny bit of drive effect at play too.

Sound is recorded directly out of quantum, but as this is all digital it would sound identical on iridium.

Waldorf Quantum Iridium All-Digital Analog-style Bass

Single resonator oscillator with random Q, timbre, spread and exciter. Resonator in modulo mode, no samples being used. Analog filters pegged fully open (so sounds very similar on iridium), inbuilt FX: chorus, delay and reverb. Just latching a 5 note chord and using arp in random mode with rhythm pattern 4.

3 wavetable oscillators using different phase distortion morph wavetables pitched as a chord, with slow slewed  s&h to position, a saw down LFO routed to filter cutoff to give the pluck and some s&h to filter cutoff, pan and osc 2/3 pitch.  Effects are built in chorus, delay and reverb.

Filter is digital (raiser model), so sounds same on Iridium as Quantum.

Waldorf Quantum 16 Voice - FM Cuff drive

Simple demo showing Quantum's 3 oscillators in one layer being treated as 3 different timbres using the new per-oscillator key ranges introduced in 3.0 beta 14 firmware. The main amp envelope has a long enough release to cover the envelopes used for the 3 oscillators, where each oscillator has an envelope controlling its mix level to mimic individual VCAs. OSC1 is the bass using a saw waveform oscillator running into the dual filters, OSC2 is the arp using a square waveform oscillator going into the digital former which is running as an LPF with random panned output, dual-filters and digital former are running parallel so completely separate, OSC 3 is the saws pad using an 8- saws waveform oscillator running direct to VCA with no filtering. Sequencing via an external hardware sequencer.

This could be doubled to 6 timbres under midi control using a second layer.  Quantum could route that second layer to the aux outs for external processing as 2 pairs of 3 timbres.

Quantum is running in 16 voices: digital only mode in the new 3.0 beta 14 firmware.

Waldorf Quantum 16 voice - 3 timbres in one layer demo

This is a bass made using the 3.0 beta 14 firmware in "16 voices:alternating" mode and 2 voice unisono. Every note plays both a voice with analog filter and a voice with digital filter (set to "raiser" filter model).  This is playing 2 notes (so 4 voices) at a time spaced an octave apart.

Osc1 is a waveform (VA) oscillator set to 2 medium-duty pulse waves. 

Osc 2 is a waveform oscillator set to a single narrow pulse. 

There is a very small amount of per-voice post-filter drive in the digital-former (using new "cuff" mode). 

6 s&h LFOs providing tiny amounts of modulation to cutoff, res, pitch, attack, release and overall VCA (which is now before the amp envelope)

Only effect is very small amount of short reverb.

Waldorf Quantum 16 Voice Nasty Pulse Bass

2 wavetable oscillators using homebrew phase-distortion+bit-reduction wavetables and wavetable drive fx, plus a waveform (VA) oscillator providing PWM sub. Filters are all digital SVF going into Digital Former as drive in cuff mode.  Effects are chorus, compressor, reverb and more cuff drive. Recorded direct on quantum with no external processing - all digital so would sound same on iridium.

Waldorf Quantum Iridium Braaam Trailer Sound

Test to see how much variety I can get from a single 2-layer patch, playing a simple pattern one note at a time and using each layer's (mono) sequencer. I'm using mod wheel and XY pad to bring elements in and out. The image for this soundcloud track shows all the notes being sent to the quantum across the entire track.

No multi-tracking, this is a single take recorded out of quantum with no external processing . Uses all digital mode, so would sound same on iridium.

Layer 1 osc 1 is the kick drum which disables keytrack so it doesn't follow sequence notes - its overall level is controlled with mod wheel, but uses sequence parameter lane for the hits. Made using sine wavetable with wtFX=drive, routed to dirty LPF.

Layer 1 osc 2 is simple 3x saw waveform bass, which plays constantly but uses a sequencer parameter lane for level.

Layer 1 osc 3 is a wavetable oscillator that uses random waveform position to provide the metallic highs.

Layer 2 osc 1 is the chords via simple 3x saw waveform with the chord baked into the sub-osc's/kernel's pitch spread. Level controlled by padX.

Layer 2 osc 2 is the pluck sound, using saw-down LFO to break the held note into shorter notes. PadY controls level and increases the speed of the synced LFO.

Layer 2 osc 3 is the resonant filter sweep sound - this is key-ranged solely to F2, so it only sounds when that key is played (new feature in 3.0 beta 14 firmware).Uses the komplex modulator to control pitch and an LFO sweeping filter.

Waldorf Quantum Iridium Single Patch, Single Take Track

All digital mode, 3 wavetable oscillators using wavetables made from moog matriarch raw osc samples, 2x digital SVF filters panned hard left/right with slight variations, drive+chorus, lot of small random modulations to wavetable position, cutoff, resonance, pitch etc.

Osc1 is waveform/VA with 2 saws an octave apart, Osc2 is single PWM. Feeds into digital former as drive:cuff, then into a single 24dB "raiser" digital filter. Lots of small modulations to filter, panning and pitch, sent into built in chorus effect set up to be juno-esque. It's set as a split-mode patch to force it to 2 voices. (ref: anlg bass wf simple)

Waldorf quantum / iridium simple VA bass

Single resonator oscillator, using the serum h breath noise source as the "exciter", but looped continuously by having exciter decay set at 1.0. That pushes this noise through the resonator's bank of 32 resonant band pass filters.  The resonator is set up with timbre as sin-saw and spectrum skew at 0, so in effect it acts like a low pass filter with the timbre parameter setting the cutoff. There are no effects on this, this is all resonator. (ref: physmod string)

Waldorf Quantum / Iridium physical modelling bowed string

Single layer, single oscillator, just 2 notes 2 octaves apart latched.

The oscillator is set to kernels type with 2 carriers, both using wavetables. It uses the komplex modulator with curve A being 8 steps set to major scale pitch offsets, curve B is 8 steps of 0. It uses one LFO as saw down to shape the sound into individual note triggers, one set to pulse to control the blend between komplex modulator curves, another set to pulse to pitch the notes up/down by a fixed amount, and the remaining 3 are s&h LFOs randomizing the length of the notes, the speeds of the pulse LFOs, wavetable position, delay times etc. All the LFOs are synced to tempo. Patch on waldorf quantum - direct sound recording, no external effects/processing.  3 waveform (VA) oscillators, mod wheel opens the filter + digital bandpass filter and brings in more delay.

Played through once with zero mod wheel, then again with full mod wheel.

Waldorf Iridium Kern Arp - single kernel oscillator+drive

2 x saw waveform/VA oscillators (one using 3 kernels) routed to digital former in drive:crunch mode (wavefolding).  There are no filters used in this one.

Bipolar random being used as controller for envelope routed to wavefold amount.  The same envelope is also used to slightly boost the wavefolder gain as the level drops when folding amount is increased.

master bass boost=on and compressor at 35%

First run throughs are with a master drive effect using pickup mode and eq.

Then there's a second run with onboard chorus/delay/reverb.

Both have some manual tweaking of the wavefold amount.

Waldorf Iridium Wfold - no filters just wavefolding

Single voice, 3 x Kernels (FM) oscillators - filters bypassed and no effects, just "sine (1/2 sub-ratio) AM'ing > sine (10.0 ratio) FM'ing > tri (1/4 sub-ratio) FM'ing > Sine carrier" per oscillator.  Uses Komplex Modulator to control the level of the modulator that directly FM's the carrier to do the growl.

3 wavetable oscillators using a moog sub 37 sweep wavetable, osc 1 is a saw that sweeps a little into pulse via envelope, osc 2 is square, osc3 is square sub.  Filter is digital SVF 12db sat LP.  Lots of subtle random modulation for cutoff/res/pitch/wtpos.  Bit of tube drive in effects.  Bass boost=on.  Recorded on quantum (beta 3), but sounds identical on iridium as this is all digital (tested to confirm).
