A deeply personal project for the Biologic Records co-boss, Higher Hopes is inspired by the deep immersive, unconventional and left-leaning underground music he loves to play in clubs.
Music like Krokakai’s. An emergent Glaswegian producer with a penchant for hardware – largely using an MPC2000XL, SH09, MS20 Mini, TT-303, Roland Alpha Juno and other trusted tools – he’s already turned heads on labels such as Invisible Inc and PowerStation Records. Right here he lays down the label’s parameters with four unique, far-reaching escapades.
Our pick here falls on ‘The Silk Road’ which picks up the eastern trail and sweeps us deep into the desert on a flying acid carpet.
Music to dance to, music to dream to, music for brighter times. Higher Hopes is vinyl-focused and distributed by Brussels record store Crevette Records. More transmissions will follow very soon.

Road To Yuzu

Road To Yuzu originates from a long drive to the east of Holland. I was on my way to a place called Yuzu after a long day in the studio, where I was stuck in an old flow and sound. I found myself re-evaluating this flow and it felt like I was ready for something new. This drive somewhat changed the sound I wanted to focus on, giving me new energy and inspiration. Road to Yuzu, a melancholic driven breakbeat track, represents this turning point. 


Phasing In

The acid elements characterize the over-rushed society we live in, where we forget to stand still at times. The kalimba percussion and synthesizers represents the opposite; feeling grounded and conscious. With Phasing in, I tried to combine these feelings to express the contradiction of the two.


Anxious World

The last track of the EP starts with dreamy synths slowly evolving into a heavy leading bass with breakbeat elements. The short didgeridoo cuts and the use of the old Yamaha SY22 synthesizer rounded up the track.


Alteration EP 

With the three tracks taken together I tried to give an output on all different thoughts going on in the studio while making music. I’m always in search to keep the balance between dancefloor movement and calmness. It’s a process where everything is subject to change and alteration.

Munich. 1994. A group buck current trends with a ground-breaking release. Tikitaka by Tamburá left aside the techno of the time to focus on a the lesser known styles of afrobeat and tribal music. The result was three tracks that sail and soar on a primal energy, three works that whisk listeners away to exotic lands of wooden wind instruments, ritualistic vocals and, even, bag pipe majesty. For twenty five years this record has been an unattainable mystery, until now that is. Kalahari Oyster Cult have lovingly restored all three of the trailblazing original tracks alongside two very special remixes. Melbourne’s Tornado Wallace adds new layers of intensity as he cuts and reshapes melodies and beats to set any floor alight with this visionary remake. Dazion offers a very different interpretation. Focusing on vocals, this new talent accentuates the shamanic-like chants of Tikitaka, using them as a base from which throbbing synth lines grow as new depths are explored. An EP every bit as daring in 2019 as it was in 1994.

It was a frosty morning and the pavement was slippery underfoot. She noticed the old man trying to cross the road cautiously and offered him her arm. He obliged and she walked and talked with him all the way home about family, current affairs and the ways of the world. She had made it her mission to do at least one positive deed a day, one good thing for somebody else but herself. It gave her happiness and fulfilment to bring joy into another's life. Maybe one day this would all come back to her in some way...

Russian producer Panorama Channel team up with fellow Russian-born, Lithuanian-based producer Pletnev for a new EP entitled Blavatsky. Both known for their individual exploits, Pletnev on labels like Fleeting Wax, Hard Fist, Bahnsteig 23 and Le Temps Perdu and Panorama Channel on Karakter as well as two previous EPs for Biologic, the label their new collaborative EP is coming out on. The pair bring a hypnotic, psychedelic quality to the three original tracks that feature whirring melodies, driving beats and dramatic synths, while You're Me's Yu Su and Moscow's Simple Symmetry bring their own signature styles on the remix.

I don't have any philosophy, but all my life I've dreamt that i can fly, and that I know what it means to fly. In lots of dreams I leave earth. I often dream that I'm in a surrounded by people in tuxedoes, holding drinks in their hands, and I know I could shut them all up in one go. They don't want me there.Then I'm on tiptoes and I let myself go, I just take off and I end up on the ceiling. And then ... I swoop down to the floor and fly up again, and everyone says, "Oh!" Then I turn elegantly at the wall. I dream that the people are all speechless, watching me, a man, fly. Or I dream that I'm flying over mountains. That's a classic. My Music has shown it from the start. In the studio I close my eyes, I ave my hand on the fader, and I try to form the sounds. I send them through the speakers like a bird flying. That's not a philosophy, more like primitive dream to make the music fly because I'm flying.
