When an old stranger dies with a smile, his echo lingers in every bird, bone, and breath. You can tell from the look in his eyes.  Memory is never alone—because nothing ever really is.  

THE LOOK IN MY EYES              

The first of June I saw a man pen in hand lying still
He looked at me through ancient eyes and he saw I was afraid
He could not speak but he smiled and he wrote these words to me

"Don't mind me I'm only dying
Just remember my face
The look in my eyes
You'll see them again someplace."

On August eighth I heard the news from a friend the man had died
They say he sang all alone but his song had harmony
His final words were "Tell the birds I'm ready now to fly some more
