ADA ACID (formerly acidplaylist) is a Seoul-based bioartist, DJ, and producer. His penchant for worldly, unusual, and leftfield sounds has brought him to local (Pistil, Contra, and Cakeshop) and international venues (Arcade, Shanghai; Shaka, Ho Chi Minh City). ADA ACID's 'Lust' is a self-interpreted version of Lo-fi House music led by Mall Grab and DJ Boring.

As Seoul Community Radio's head and Hazed & Confucius' founder, DJ Bowlcut has enjoyed a Bud X Boiler Room debut and steady releases on Seoul's Honey Badger label in 2018. He has participated in international festivals in Hong Kong and Thailand, as well as label compilations on Phuture Shock Musik (UK) and Nerang Recording (AUS). DJ Bowlcut signature Lo-fi House sound can be heard on several revered YouTube channels and his knack for sampling internet culture is evident is in his Textures feature track 'Joy of Painting' which pays homage to the late Bob Ross' indelible life lessons.

Seoul Community Radio의 헤드이자 레이블 Hazed & Confucius의 파운더이며, 한국의 언더그라운드 일렉트로닉 뮤직 레이블 Honey Badger Records에서 자신의 곡들을 꾸준히 릴리즈하고 있는 Bowlcut은 2018년, 서울에서 열린 Bud X Bolier Room에서 출연하여 전세계 하우스 음악 팬들의 이목을 받았다. 이후 홍콩과 태국 등 여러 페스티벌에 이름을 올리면서 호주의 Nerang Recording와 영국의 Phuture Shock Musik 레이블 컴필레이션에 참여하기까지 한 그의 곡들은 이제는 유투브에서 어렵지 않게 들을 수 있게 되었고, 지금도 많은 해외 채널에서 꾸준히 릴리즈 됨과 동시에 높은 조횟수를 기록하고 있다. 그가 textures.를 위해 보내온 곡 ‘Joy of Painting’ 은 90년대, “참 쉽죠?”라는 유행어를 남긴 밥로스(Bob Ross)의 방송에서 흘러나오던 음악과 멘트들을 샘플링한 로-파이 하우스트랙으로 Bowlcut 특유의 로-파이한 시그니처 Hat 소리와 더불어, 마치 끝나지 않을것만 같은 아주 긴 터널속을 지나는 인상을 주며 약 5분여동안 아주 자연스럽게 우리를 싸이키델릭의 세계로 인도한다.

Peja is a Rome-based techno producer whose been crafting his sound for over a decade.
Peja’s productions are well known in neighbouring European techno destinations as his sound is peculiar as it is local: much of his inspirations come from local underground record shops and their unique brand of turntablism culture. Peja’s remix of “Errands of Mercy” is yet another track that exemplifies his craft, adding to his voluminous solo and collaborative releases with artists like Roberto Capuano, Florian Meindl and Rich Jones.

txtrs. Mix aims to present Seoul’s most interesting, idiosyncratic, and exceptional underground musicians. To celebrate the pilot series, we’ve invited Mike Hampton (Shins @bigshins) to start us off. 

텍스쳐스는 서울의 더욱 흥미롭고, 색다른 우수한 언더그라운드 뮤지션들의 믹스셋을 소개하는 txtrs. Mix 시리즈를 런칭합니다. 시리즈의 첫 출발을 자신만의 색으로 장식해 줄 아티스트는 Mike Hampton (Shins @bigshins) 입니다.

Few know Seoul’s underground scene as intimately as Shins. Having arrived 2010, Shins began DJing a year later soon to be seen from Hongdae to Itaewon supporting countless international artists. In the ensuing years, Shins made a point to support the community that grew him by building Seoul’s underground community, ranging from creating the blueprint for Seoul Community Radio (@seoulcommunityradio) to other projects, such as Heights, Close Quarters and Nodaj Media. In 2017, Shins became Contra’s (@contralseoul) music director to organize several events with top international talents from Jayda G to Bruce. 

Originally from London, Shins’ sound is unmistakably UK: Many tracks on the mix are from UK imprints (Unknown To The Unknown, INTERGRADED, X-Kalay). However, closer inspection reveals the eclectic nature of the mix with tracks drawn from Seoul-based producers (@adaacid and @closetyi), as well as from imprints in Amsterdam to Vancouver, NYC to Hong Kong. Overall, the mix is unified by Shin’s affinity for lush synths, classic drum breaks, and iconic baselines, smoothing over the internationality and variety of his mix. 

@bigshins 만큼이나 서울의 언더그라운드 씬을 내밀하게 아는 아티스트는 없을 것입니다. 2010년 서울에 온 그는 얼마 지나지 않아 디제잉을 시작했고 이태원, 홍대 등 서울 곳곳에서 활동을 보여주며 씬의 주축이 되어 셀 수 없는 해외 아티스트를 서포트하였습니다. 그 후 Shins는 서울커뮤니티라디오, Heights, Close Quarters, Nodaji Seoul과 같은 서울의 언더그라운드 커뮤니티를 서포트하는 활동들의 청사진을 그려나가며 아티스트로 거듭났습니다. 2017년에는 콘트라의 음악 디렉터로서 Jayda G부터 Bruce까지 유수의 해외 아티스트들을 초청하였습니다. 

런던 출신인 Shins는 이 믹스에서도 Unkown To The Unknown, INTERGRADED, X-Kalay와 같은 UK 사운드를 선보입니다. 뿐만 아니라, ADA ACID와 Closet Yi와 같은 서울 베이스 프로듀서들의 트랙부터 암스테르담, 벤쿠버, 시카고, 뉴욕, 엘에이, 베를린, 홍콩까지의 트랙들로 넓은 스펙트럼을 보여줍니다. 풍성한 신스 사운드와 클래식한 드럼 브레이크, 그리고 아이코닉한 베이스라인에 대한 Shins의 애정으로 한 군데 묶여 다채롭게 섞이는 이 믹스를 통해 그의 글로벌한 내공을 느낄 수 있을 것입니다.

txtrs. Mix 001 - Shins

Even at the end of the world there will be clubbers. [Right, But’Club] is txtrs.’s second compilation album dedicated to the clubbers that even mankind’s collapse cannot stop.

Inspired by ‘Forever 27 Club’ a phrase used to describe a group of artists who passed before their time, ‘Right, But’Club’ describes the lives of millennials who struggle to prosper despite having done everything ‘right’. Our second EP is an interpretation of these dystopian and despondent ideals and realities.

To make [Right, But’Club] a physical reality, @textures.seoul collaborated with rave culture inspired streetwear brand @gpd_gearpurposedefined to form a team of millennial artists and designers. Together, we created a line of merchandise fit for any festival, rave, or streetwear, released before the ‘end of humanity’ as some doomsdayers would like to think.

Spinoza said that he would plant an apple today even if the world is to collapse tomorrow. In that spirit, despite facing the odds of imminent global destruction we’ll be at the clubs lending our bodies to music. Let the tracks of our new compilation speak for itself and imagine yourself dancing like there is no tomorrow.

인류가 멸망한대도 클럽에 가야한다는 사람들을 위해 textures. 가 준비한 지침서 [Right, But’Club] 

스물일곱살에 세상을 떠난 아티스트들의 모임 ‘Forever 27 Club’과 같이 ‘Right, But’Club’ 은 2000년대 당시 옳은 일을 했지만 안타깝게 망한 사람들을 지칭하는 모임의 이름이다. 한국의 하우스/테크노 장르를 이끌어 가고 있는 @textures.seoul 의 멤버들은 이 디스토피아적인 주제에 영감을 받아 곧바로 두번째 컴필레이션 제작에 들어갔다. 

앨범을 제목 그대로 중의적인 의미가 담긴 이번 앨범은 음악 이 외에도 클럽과 페스티벌 문화에 영향을 받아 탄생한 패션 브랜드 @gpd_gearpurposedefined 와의 협업으로 그 어떤 클럽과 페스티벌에서도 간편하게 입고 춤을 출 수 있는 콜라보레이션 의류 또한 릴리즈 한다. 

textures. 와 GPD, 음악과 패션, 각자 다른 분야에서 90년대생들을 대표하며 활동하는 이 젊은 아티스트들의 협업은 과거 인류가 예측했던 인류 멸망의 시기인 2020년이 되기 전, 가장 주목해야할 협업임에 분명하다.

스피노자는 내일 지구가 멸망하더라도 오늘 한 그루의 사과나무를 심겠다고 했다. 마찬가지로, 내일 지구가 멸망하더라도 우리는 오늘 클럽에 가서 음악에 몸을 맡길 것이다. 지난 컴필보다 더 뚜렷해진 이번 앨범의 언더그라운드 댄스 트랙들을 들으며 내일이 없는것 처럼 춤을 추는 우리의 모습을 상상해보자.

As a born collaborator and formidable creative, LIGRYE eloquently juggles the life of a DJ, promoter, brand owner, and artist. LIGYRE’s eclectic style of DJing has led him to all corners of Seoul’s underground, ranging from festivals (ULTRA, Spectrum, Holiday Land) to performances (MixMag, Boiler Room, Pute Deluxe) both large and intimate. LIGRYE is also a key DJ for Seoul’s art and fashion scene (GQ, Louis Vuitton, Seoul Fashion Week) all the while supporting icons, such as Virgil Abloh and Peggy Gou. However, LIGYRE’s biggest claim to the industry comes through his role as an auteur of Shade - Seoul’s LGBTQ-inspired platform which has featured prominent international performers (Arca, Yaeji, Kim Ann Foxman), enjoyed international press (Vice, ID Magazine, Dazed and Confused Korea), and toured near a dozen Asian cities.  

Originally from South Africa, LIGYRE’s sound is unmistakably inspired by afro and polyrhythms: Many tracks on the mix feature artists known for their penchant for afrocentric beats (Acid Arab, Bawrut, Moscoman, Andhim). However, closer inspection reveals the electric nature of the mix; tracks collaborated with Vietnamese musicians Co Doi Thuong Ngan & Viet Rice Band and Minh Duong offer moments of reflective pause while nu disco jams (Sziget, Younger Than Me, Gerd Janson, Skream) carry the mix forward.

늘 넘치는 창의력을 타고난 콜라보레이터 LIGRYE는 DJ, 프로모터, 브랜드 오너, 아티스트 사이에서 유연하게 역할을 바꾸는 것이 무엇인지 보여줍니다. DONGYOUNG is a Seoul-based producer, DJ and graphic designer who expresses the youth of contemporary Seoul through his audio-visual work. Through his tracks featured in the last two BOOTCAMP compilations, he infuses the insecurities and irregularities of Seoul's youth in his sounds. In his upcoming EP, he wants to describe Seoul's modern youth using his distinctive sounds. Similarly to the character of youth, his sound is hard to describe in one word. With a mix of ambiguous ambient sounds carrying synthesizer melodies, he creates a special texture which sets his tracks apart from other tech-house productions. Additionally, as the visual director of Seoul's underground music/culture curating channel textures. DONGYOUNG has also found a channel to express himself visually. DONGYOUNG has created the distinctive visual identity of textures. by combining his vision of Seoul with the sounds of Seoul's underground House and Techno artists.

DONGYOUNG은 서울을 기반으로 활동하는 프로듀서겸 DJ, 그리고 그래픽 디자이너로, 동시대 서울의 젊음을 작업에 담아낸다. Objet is a Seoul-based producer/DJ with a diverse palette of genres, approaching music production with an experimental sound processing technique. His unique approach to music led us to feature ‘Vatican’ on our second House volume and his subsequent track ‘In the Shell’ was released in our first compilation album [N.A.S.A.]. Objet continues to impress, going onto release a breakbeat track for our 3rd compilation album [Right But’Club] and shortly after, a dark techno remix of KONA’s ‘Do Not Distrub’ as part of her remix album [Connexcion(Jamais Vu)].

서울을 기반으로 활동중인 Objet 은 자신만의 실험적인 사운드 프로세싱을 기반으로 다양한 장르의 음악을 소화하는 디제이이자 프로듀서다. textures. 의 하우스 시리즈에 자신의 곡 ‘Vatican’이 소개되기도 했으며, 컴필레이션 [N.A.S.A.] 에는 다소 어둡고 공격적인 테크노 트랙 ‘In The Shell’ 을 수록 하며, 본격적인 활동을 시작했다.  이후  textures. 의 두번째 컴필레이션 [Right But Club]에서 브레이킹 트랙을 수록하며 KONA의 [Connexion (Jamais Vu Remix)] ‘Do Not Disturb’ 리믹스 트랙등 다양한 활동을 이어가고 있다.

txtrs. Mix 004 X Soft Office X Kang He Ra - Objet

서울의 하우스/테크노 음악을 기반으로 한  미디어 플랫폼 textures.의 디렉터이자 DJ/프로듀서인 @e3e3e3e3는 아날로그 Synth 소리와 함께 직관적인 리듬의 무브먼트가 돋보이는 곡  ‘Earth Boy’를 textures.의 첫번째 컴필레이션 [N.A.S.A]에 수록하며 본격적인 활동을 시작했다. 그녀의 두번째 textures. 컴필레이션 [Right’ but Club]에서는 
목관악기 신스와 영화감독 빌리와일더의 보컬 샘플을 활용한 멜로디컬한 하우스트랙 ‘Dallol’ 을 수록하였으며, 사운드클라우드에 릴리즈한 하우스트랙 ’Jessica, Only Child’에서는  영화 기생충의 기정남매 보컬 샘플을 재치있게 배치하며 해외 온라인 바이럴을 이끌어내는 등 영화라는 매체를 음악과 융합한 다양한 시도를 하고 있다. 

E3 is a Seoul-based DJ/Producer, and the director of textures Seoul- a media platform that mainly highlights house/techno music and Seoul’s electronic music scene. As part of txtrs. first compilation album [N.A.S.A], E3 released ‘Earth Boy’, a tech house track depicting analogue synth sound and eidetic rhythm. E3 is creating her own world by combing film into music: From her second txtrs. compilation [Right’ but Club], she released a house track ‘Dallol’ with flute synth utilizing Billy Wilder’s vocal sample. Her online release track ‘Jessica Only Child’ also went viral, a playful homage house track to the film Parasite.

서울, 홍콩, 싱가폴, 보스턴, 런던 등 여러 도시를 거쳐온 Psients는 다문화적인 관점을 자신의 작업에 다채롭게 반영한다. 뇌과학 전공이라는 독특한 배경을 가진
Psients의 작업은 박테리아, 세포, 유기체 등 생물학적인 매개로 활용한 전자 음악 프로듀싱을통해 음악과 생물학의 교집합을 탐구한다.

Psients는 한국 내의 일렉트로닉 음악과 문화를 널리 알리고 있는 미디어 그룹인 txtrs.(텍스쳐스)의 디렉터이다. 온라인 영역에서 그는 txtrs.를 LA, 방콕, 홍콩, 보고타 아티스트와 연결해 콜라보레이션을 만들어내며 로컬 그룹이 아닌 인터내셔널한 브랜드로 확장 중이다. Psients의 곡 ‘Lust’, ‘The Sun (Alex Young)', ‘Hearts’는 전세계 릴리즈 후 NTS 라디오 와 Worldwide FM에 피처 되었다.  

Brought up in Seoul, Hong Kong, Singapore, Boston, and London, Psients (aka ADA ACID) brings multicultural perspectives to his works. Trained as a neuroscientist, Psients turned to the arts to explore the intersection of music and biology by producing and performing electronic music through a biological medium, such as bacteria, cells, or organisms.
Psients is the director of txtrs. - a media group responsible for promoting Korean electronic music and culture. He has been responsible for growing the platform from a local entity into an international brand through collaborations in LA, Bangkok, Hong Kong, and Bogota. Recently, his tracks ‘Lust’, ‘The Sun (Alex Young)’ and ‘Hearts’ have been featured on NTS radio and Worldwide FM.
