Based pretty closely on the self-proclaimed King of Western Swing Spade Cooley's murder of his wife Ella Mae, which happened in full view of the couple's daughter. Parts of this song are lifted from one of Spade's own, which I have no qualms about because that's the nature of folk music, and because the guy was a fucking asshole anyways. 

Also pretty much BJM's song "13", so it's a hybrid theft.
