Action Cures Everything. This is the mantra and the moniker of Atlanta’s hottest young rapper Jay Shaw, otherwise known as “ACE.” “If you’re stagnant,” says ACE, “you’re not going anywhere.” Abiding by this belief, ACE’s action had already begun to propel his budding career to new levels.
Born and raised in Bloomington, Illinois ACE attended Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville where he studied mass communication. Even while excelling in the classroom and making his mark with the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, ACE couldn’t resist the urge to make music. While at SIUE, he was honored as “Best Rapper” at the Who Runs the Yard Awards. The rush of the performance and his competitive nature awakened his latent and deep-seeded passion for music, and he released a full mixtape to the acclaim of his peers and fans.
Directing focus toward another career, ACE relocated to the hip-hop Mecca of the South. But once he was in Atlanta, it seemed as though the draw of music kept crossing ACE’s path, tempting him at every turn. Friends and family would ask why he stopped making music. Even those who were not close to him seemed to be hungry for another project. Perhaps it wasn’t just a draw to music that was tempting him, he thought, but fate. And in early 2019, ACE began to take his craft more seriously than ever. He dropped Zoovie, which drew the attention of the Atlanta hip-hop scene and earned him write-ups in Makin-It Magazine and on Broke 2 Dope. Performances around Atlanta, including at The Exposure Open Mic and The Empire, have only helped to solidify the statement that ACE’s music makes- he’s here, and he’s climbing.
Influenced by the East Coast sounds of Jay-Z, Fabolous, and DMX among others, ACE was capitvated at an early age by the lyricism that these greats brought to the game. The diversity of the vibes and sounds of his records not only serve to demonstrate his versatility, but also serve to showcase the central strength of his craft- bars. In a time when the genre is largely blended with pop music and characterized by repetition and senselessness, ACE stirs up memories of old-school rappers with a hardcore style who spit on the mic. A true artist on the beat, he weaves in and out of stories about his life experiences with a relatability that listeners feel deeply. Coupled with clever lyrics and hard-hitting punchlines this emcee has caught the attention of underground movers and shakers as well as industry tastemakers throughout the southeast.
ACE had his first major label release through Sony Music Entertainment in September 2019 with a single, "Money Talk"
that closed out the summer on a high note. His second single distributed by Sony, "Water" was released January 2020.  Most recently, ACE released "Hollywood Ace" the mixtape.  A bigger project is in the works that will serve to showcase his diversity and versatility in an album format. Hip-hop fans who are sick of the monotony of the genre as of late have found their cure. Keep an eye out for ACE and his action to make big waves in the coming months.
