Coming to the table with a fresh mutant sound, Darker Than Wax is proud to welcome Leeds-based artist Captain Over to our sonic universe with his Deep Blue EP. A solo project from one of the minds behind the band Paper Tiger, Captain Over represents a firm focus on dancefloor experimentation, blending the sounds of grime, broken beat, house, and LA beat music to create an entirely new beast. Much like the chess-playing supercomputer of the same name, ‘Deep Blue’ occupies a space between electronic weight and the human touch, fusing together icy digital synths borrowed from grime with off-kilter grooves and jazzy motifs.

Following a string of releases led by vocal tracks with grime MCs, ‘Deep Blue’ is the first fully instrumental offering from Captain Over, lending the artist a platform to make a strong statement about his creative vision and technical prowess. From the expansive arrangement of ‘4D’ to the duelling sci-fi synths on ‘Mind’s Eye’, the Deep Blue EP is a deeply creative yet functional record, signalling a bright future for the Captain Over project.

Kumail is a musician, producer, performing artist Mumbai, India. Over the last four years, he has ascended to the very top of India’s burgeoning culture of electronic music on two parallel paths - as a gifted musician and bandleader drawing expansive canvases of rhythm, texture and emotion, and as a roughneck DJ notorious for breaking ankles. Having started off plunging deep into lo-fi ambient electronica, Those paths have led him to a DJ set at Dimensions Festival 2018 in Croatia, a string of several live festival dates across India, and extensive touring across the country. In the past, he has shared the stage with the likes of Shigeto, Four Tet, DJ Koze, Teebs, Ratatat, Mount Kimbie and Kutmah, and been featured on Boiler Room, Sofar Sounds and COLORS.

‘Same Shit’, featuring critically acclaimed Los Angeles singer and rapper Pink Siifu, marks a major shift in Kumail’s trajectory as an artist. The lead single off his forthcoming album ‘Yasmin’, (on Brooklyn’s Bastard Jazz Recordings) marks a significant departure from the lo-fi meditative electronica of his early online mixtapes towards R&B and soul-drenched palettes that could only come from the West Coast - in this case from both the United States and India. The cross-continent collaboration cements Kumail’s bid for a place in the vanguard of modern neo-soul and hip-hop from around the world. A sign of more of hook-driven slow-jams to come from ‘Yasmin’, projected to release winter 2019.

This year, all proceeds will be donated to the Natural Resources Defense Counsel, one of the world’s most effective environmental action organizations. 

Ho ho ho—Tartelet Records has once again reached into its secret stash of tricks and dug out some incredible gems. Following 2016’s compilation success with all proceeds sent to Syria’s White Helmets, the 2019 Christmas release has attracted an even broader spectrum of sound from nine of the label’s most honorable artists.  

Featuring Tartelet Records’ signature eclectic mix of genres, Christmas is saved with unreleased works by Wayne Snow and digitalluc, jitwam, Space Ghost, Glenn Astro, Kasper Marott, Verner, N.O.T.E, and label head Dirk 81. Each track has been handpicked by the artist themselves to represent their unique style in support of a bold charitable cause.  

This year, the Natural Resources Defense Counsel (NRDC) has been selected as the recipient of all proceeds. As one of the world’s most prominent environmental protection organizations, it strives to protect nature in ways that advance the long-term welfare of present and future generations. Tartelet Records is proud to support this important mission with its exclusive end-of-year release.

Music Is My Sanctuary is very excited to premiere this fresh-out-the-box Neue Grafik rework of "Leave Me", a beautiful song from one our absolute favourite new voices, Sahra Gure. Released this Friday, June 5th, only on Bandcamp as a special release on Bandcamp revenue waive day.

"Leave Me" is a slow ballad exploring anger and depression. The haunting vocals and repetition mirror the cyclical, emotional downward spiral many find themselves in when experiencing depression. London-based French producer, Neue Grafik (Rhythm Section, TRC, Beat X Changers, CoOp Presents), adds a solemn depth on this very special remix blissfully echoing the ethereal vocals with his deep, exuberant blend of lo-fi hip hop beats and jazz.

Sahra adds, "“Leave me” was written on reflection of loosing someone extremely close to me. Loss is so complicated but whilst writing this I began to see the importance of acknowledging my mistakes without wallowing in self pity. I think that’s something we as humans find hard. It’s easy to acknowledge mistakes, it’s difficult to change our behaviour."

The original track is taken from ‘Love Me, With Me,’ Sahra’s debut EP. Written and produced by herself and recorded live with her band at Soup Studios, London. ‘Love Me With Me’ is an organic project which takes listeners on a journey through the 7 stages of grief: shock, denial, guilt anger, depression, reconstruction and acceptance.
