It takes talent to make the struggle to succeed seem effortless. That is the gift that separates artists like Bryan Bernard (aka FOCUS, which stands for: Fully. Over. Coming. Unpredictable. Situations), from the everyday emcee. FOCUS has been branded as hip-hop’s new voice, saying what most people want to but are afraid to. He realizes there are consequences to speaking his mind, but there are greater consequences in not doing so.

In a time where music executives try to find the next YouTube sensation with catchy hooks and gimmick dance moves many artists have tried to conform and become clones but FOCUS continues to be himself. He moves to excel where his contemporaries have failed.

While being raised in the hollowed out crime laden neighborhood of South Jamaica Queens, NY, FOCUS' music would be influenced by its sights and sounds. Growing up on the east coast his music represents its New York roots and has frequently been compared to one of hip hop’s legends LL Cool J. FOCUS’ diversity in his songs range from hip-hop, to slow-jams, and also club bangers making him a perfect fit for a wide range audience. He has something for everyone.

After gaining local notoriety and feeling the need to be heard outside of New York FOCUS, embarked on a career that has seen him grab the interest of DJs nationally. After polishing his sound FOCUS has released records such as the hard knocking “E Train Freestyle” and “Get Away.” With concepts shedding light on everyday life, his songs put everyone on notice that FOCUS has come to do things his way.

One thing that Focus wants to see change within the hip-hop community is more support and togetherness between artists and DJs. He feels that the current need for everyone to be “the king of NY” is turning artists against each other. He believes that musicians should instead support one another to grow for the good of the music industry itself. One thing he wants his fans to know is that everything FOCUS writes about is based on his real-life experiences. His music is a glimpse into his reality, which he wants to share with his fans. His goal is for his music to make his audiences feel emotion, whether they laugh, cry, dance, think or love. The most common goal of all entertainers is to take complex thoughts and feelings and morph them into something simple, such as a meaningful song.

With such a diverse display, FOCUS is ready to wake up a dormant industry and cement his name into the minds of fans everywhere, but more than that with the success of his soon to be released mixtape, FOCUS is betting that hip-hop is ready for music with substance once again.
