Thanks For Tonight is the fine line between reality and make believe. We sway with the tide, but we hate salt water. We're the sound at the end of movies, not the music, but the credits. Sometimes we play backgammon, but only for kicks. We insinuate multiple pleasures and pains, and love every bit of it. We once tore a phonebook... that was already in pieces. Sometimes we bite, but only if you ask us. We enjoy saying hi to your mom. Only because she gives us that cute little smile. We're the spinning in your head when you drink too much cough syrup. Kind of like drunk, but usually legal unless you operate machinery. We only wear size 9 sneakers, even those of us who can't. If an actor played us in a movie, it could only be us. Not an actor. We're the real deal. The big cheese. The Don Pancho of midwestern playwrites. Call us. We'll answer. But it might be someone else. We never wear corduroys. Except when we have to. Even then, they're probably artificial. Our intelligence is ruthless, and we never settle in lawsuits. Sue us and we'll sue you. Do us and we'll do you. Our faces are plaster. We never ride motorbikes. We can shotgun a soda even if it's full of beer. We watch our rearview. We never shift lanes without blinking. Our dogs are named cat. And our cats are not morning people.
