Presenting: “Rock Like This”, the WUMP debut from @plzBlastfome and @U-L-K. 

This one’s a certified heater, folks, so strap yourselves in. Beginning with an ominously powerful beat atop a clip of an interview with Elvis Presley about the state of rock ‘n’ roll, Blastfome and ULK take us back in time for a quick second before sending us soaring into the future. Just as rock ‘n’ roll was devious and cutting edge for its time, we now seem to be experiencing a similar paradigm shift as bass music continues to grow and evolve, gaining more attention as a counter-culture. In this song we hear the sample of a skeptic asking, “What is this crazy ‘rock and roll’ music anyway?” before the drop, representing the resistance felt whenever a new style of music emerges into the cultural landscape. I’m sure we’ve all had the conversation with members of the Baby Boomer generation where they say, “Electronic music isn’t real music. You kids don’t know real music”, as they look back to the glory days of rock ‘n’ roll, forgetting that the same claims were made against rock ‘n’ roll during its birth. It’s just a cyclical, recurring pattern that has happened as long as art has been around, and will surely continue as the times progress, so we say f*ck it. You don’t need to justify and explain why you love certain kinds of art more than others. Enjoy what you enjoy and let the music take control.  

This is perfectly embodied by the sequence before the drop: “What is this crazy ‘rock ‘n’ roll’ music, anyway?” …..”Uh, I don’t know..” This simple dismissal of explanation coupled with the pure silliness of how heavy the drop is makes us smile, because it invites the listener to stop thinking and just get dowwwnnnn with the heavy bass frequencies. Blastfome and ULK take us through some immersive, full bodied gnar that keeps us groovin’ as it moves us into the different sections, building in intensity as it goes along. With each drop, we’re invited to surrender more and more until our bodies are essentially just flopping around and flailing as a big, cheesy grin forms on our faces.
