The Staple Singers - Slippery People (Olivier Boogie & Halve Soul Edit)

I got the opportunity to officially remix this classic song to coincide with the release of a new Donny Hathaway box set. I was given the original multitrack master of the studio version (different from the live version)and it consisted of 8 different instrument and vocal tracks (as opposed to the more usual 24 tracks) 
When I take on a remix, my first goal is to make it work on a current dance floor. I like to stay very close to the originally recorded sound and In most case there's plenty to be reworked on the multitrack master to achieve this. 
This case proved a little different as there were few rhythm elements I could use to fit within current standards of club loudness levels. So I decided to take a slightly different approach, and add a new set of (acoustic) drums,  to bend the original Soul vibe a little towards Disco territory.

Unter der Laterne drifts through the glow of a place that once meant everything — a street corner where young love felt fearless, sweet, and a little bit unreal. It’s a quiet walk back into a summer that refuses to fade, filled with small details that suddenly matter again: warm pavement, borrowed shirts, shared secrets, and the electric feeling of a first touch. The song holds on to the magic and the ache of remembering someone so clearly that even years later the air feels the same, the light looks the same, and the heart still pauses under that lamppost where everything began.

Unter der Laterne wandert durch das weiche Licht eines Ortes, der einmal die ganze Welt bedeutete — eine Straßenecke, an der junge Liebe mutig, süß und ein bisschen unwirklich war. Es ist ein leiser Rückweg in einen Sommer, der einfach nicht vergeht, gefüllt mit kleinen Momenten, die plötzlich wieder Gewicht haben: warmes Pflaster, geteilte Geheimnisse, ein Lieblings-T-Shirt, ein Blick, der alles sagte. Der Song hält die Magie und den Schmerz des Erinnerns fest — so deutlich, dass selbst Jahre später die Luft gleich riecht, das Licht gleich fällt und das Herz unter dieser Laterne noch einmal stehen bleibt, genau dort, wo alles begann.
