Presenting the first of three choice chunks of our Kings Day DJ set in Amsterdam this year. (Kings Day, if you don't know, is a national holiday in NL during which the whole place turns decidedly orange, drinks a whole lot of beer and goes nuts.) 

For the last few years, as part of the festivities, we've been hosting a little secret location sound system party during which we can cut loose and play an extended DJ set covering a whole bunch of bases - sometimes with friends guesting, sometimes (like this year) flying solo for the whole day, dropping as many solid personal favourites as we can along the way, natuurlijk.... 

So here's the first chunk, from early in the day, warming things up with a soulful, skanking, boom-bapping selection of edits, remixes, favourites and classics - hope you enjoy!

The boys have been busy clearing out the pool house here in our summer retreat of BLD Bungalows, ready to fill it in autumn with unused BLD branded sun beds and parasols. It’s a dirty job but someone’s got to do it…

BLD 18th Aug 2025 with Esteban and Cole Kutz

Recently I had the pleasure of performing at Crystal Palace Bowl in London as part of the South Facing Festival, alongside a bunch of heroes & influences of mine, namely DJ Shadow, UNKLE (James Lavelle & Ronin), Morcheeba, Zero 7, Chali 2na (Jurassic 5) & A Skillz, as well as my good friend DJ Cheeba.

Here is a 33-track 90-minute mix including some of the music I played during my sets at the event, and tracks from the artists that performed. One-take business.

Incidentally, last time I was at Crystal Palace Bowl was back in 1996, when I was an extra in the video to Chemical Brothers & Noel Gallagher's No.1 single 'Setting Sun' (!), so it was quite the trip to be back nearly 30 years later for this event! So as a bonus, for pure self-indulgence, I included that track too.

The mix also kicks off with a nod to Busta Rhymes, who headlined the festival the following day.

It was nice to be able to play some of the music on big speakers that I was playing in my bedroom way back when, along with being on stage with some of the artists that dominated my record collection around about that period too.

@DJ-BACON is one of Brisbanes best known and best loved DJ's.  He began performing in the mid-1990s at some of the city's formative venues. Across 20 years in Melbourne and Brisbane he has played at most of Australia's iconic club venues and events. He is a former QLD DMC DJ champion and Q music award winner.

He is rightly famous in the Australian music underground for his effortless blend of  Hip Hop, Soul and Funk from every era. 

DJ supports of note have included all time hip hop pioneers such as Grandmaster Flash, DJ Shadow, DJ Dexter, Cut Chemist, Jurassic 5, the Roots and many more. With his band Briztronix he has won QLD music awards, released 3 full length LP's and appeared on dozens of compilation CD's and vinyl.
