soulful boogie funk is on the rise here at tropicaldo. no wonder, our next guest is a master in this regard. straight from the city of angels, she comes with a very well-crafted set in the presentation of the genre.

born and raised in Los Angeles, The Alaia is attracted to music that has a feeling of perpetual summer and heat: soulful boogie funk, sexy disco, smooth g-funk, hard gangsta rap, soulful house. She aspires to play you music that moves you, that gets you off your ass, that makes you want to cry, that makes you wanna go home with a stranger, that makes you catch an attitude.

as a kid, the Alaia had vivid memories of her mom reminiscing about nightlife in her 20s, playing sounds of earth wind & fire, SOS band, chaka khan. her dad would continually show her new prince, had marvin gaye on repeat, and introduced her to the songs of roy ayers. The only radio stations she remembered in her youth were KDAY and the beat, peaking her interest in hip hop, rap, and R&B. soul and boogie still hit the alaia hard. she dove beyond the classics that she grew up listening to when she stumbled into the legendary Funkmosphere at Carbon Bar on her 18th birthday. 

always discovering and rediscovering, she collects mostly vinyl and cassettes, some CDs here and there. she’s graced the dublab and NTS airwaves, contributed a guest mix on balamii, worldwide FM, and dash Radio, holds down a casual monthly residency on LA local online radio station VPN radio, and has contributed guest dj mixes to an array of music selector series' worldwide.

In other creative worlds, she's also the art director and graphic designer for independent record label CQQL Records.

The Alaia é nascida e criada em Los Angeles. atraída pela música que traz um sentimento de um perpétuo verão caloroso: sexy disco, g-funk suave, gangsta rap pesado, soulful house. ela se inspira a tocar músicas que façam qualquer um se mexer, que tire sua raba do lugar, que nos façam querer chorar, que queiram você ir para casa com um estranho, que tragam atitude para as pessoas. 

quando criança, alaia tem uma memória vívida de sua mãe contado suas histórias da vida noturna em seus 20 anos, tocando músicas do earth wind & fire, sos band, chaka khan, seu pai vivia aprsentando prince, marvin gaye no repeat e introduzindo novas músicas do roy ayers. a única estação de rádio que ela se lembra de ouvir na sua adolescência era KDAY and the beat, atraindo seu interesse no hip hop, rap, soul e r&b. 

sempre descobrindo e redescobrindo tracks lendárias, ela coleciona vinis, cassetes e alguns cds. alaia agracia a alma dos ouvintes da radio dublab e nts, contribuindo com mixes também para balamii, worldwide fm e dash radio, além de realizar residência na rádio local online vpn radio.
